The report regarding the acquisition of Housemarque comes along with a hint that Sony is planning to acquire another studio, Bluepoint Games. Sony’s PlayStation Japan Twitter account, while tweeting about the acquisition of Housemarque, they mistakenly posted a promotional image that clearly indicates the acquisition of Bluepoint Games. The tweet was immediately deleted within few minutes, but Twitter user Nibel verify that the tweet came from the official Playstation account of Japan.
Bluepoint Games have its own history of collaboration with PlayStation. Demon’s Soul Remastered is one of the recent examples of their collaboration. The studio has also remastered some of the other PlayStation exclusive titles like Shadow of the Colossus, The Uncharted Trilogy, and Flower.
Sony Playstation, main console rival, Microsoft Xbox, has been recently involved in so many acquisitions. Talking about the names of studios, Microsoft has acquired Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Double Fine, Obsidian Entertainment, and Bethesda. Companies should keep themselves involved in such kinds of acquisitions, as they help them to produce more quality games that a gamer will love to play.
While giving an interview to GQ, Hulst clearly denied that they are in any kind of rivalry and competition with Microsoft. He said, “I am always looking for people that have a simple set of values, similar creative ambitions, and work very well with our team that we can further invest in and help grow as creators. It’s not like we’re going around and just making random acquisitions“.
So, we can guarantee that this acquisition is going to bring some of the exclusive games, that everyone is going to love.
