Since the last year, we have been reading rumors & news about Netflix coming into the video gaming industry. Now, on Tuesday 2nd November 2021, Netflix has officially released five mobile games on its Android app. Find out how you can start playing them right now.
Netflix is also planning to bring gaming on its iOS app, and then on other platforms. However, they are initially targeting Android users with five games, out of which two are based on their massively popular show, Stranger Things.
Currently, Netflix isn’t charging any fees for the games. Anyone can access them via the Netflix Android app, except for kids. They have ensured that child safety is strictly followed on the platform.

What is Netflix Gaming?
After years of development and experimenting, Netflix has introduced games on its Android app. Netflix Gaming is the video-streaming giant’s plan of the future to go beyond providing movies and shows on the platform.
You can now play games on Netflix. However, the feature is currently limited to the Android version of the app and is soon expected to come on iOS as well. You can play the games on the Netflix Android app by going to the games tab and choosing the desired game.
Currently, Netflix is not charging any additional fees for gaming. It also does not serve any advertisements or in-app purchases to the players. The games are completely free to play and included with your regular Netflix subscription.
However, this might change eventually when Netflix decides to turn gaming into an additional source of revenue. For now, games are available for everyone, in all the languages that Netflix supports, and on all the profiles.

Initially, Netflix has launched five games on the Android app. Those 5 Netflix games are:

Out of the five games, two are based on one of the most popular Netflix shows ever, Stranger Things. Netflix has initially released its mobile games on Android, though it does have plans to reach iOS as well (Announced via Twitter).

How to Play Games on Netflix?
You can now play five games on the Netflix Android app. To do that, you will need an active subscription to Netflix and the latest version of the Netflix Android app. Once ready, follow these steps:
- Launch the Netflix app and log in to your account.
- Now go to the Netflix Games from the homepage or games tab.
- Choose the game that you want to play.
- Download the game via the Google Play Store.
- Run the game and enjoy playing.
You have to download these games via the Netflix app from the Google Play Store, or your device’s app store. Some of these games are even available offline. You can enjoy them without needing the internet.
Who is developing Netflix games?
Netflix is working with indie games studios like BonusXP for quite a time to bring intriguing games onto its platform. They had also acquired Night School Studio to launch the first five titles in specific European markets to test their plans.
Along with this, Netflix has also hired Verdu as the head of the gaming decision. Mike Verdu previously collaborated with developers at Facebook to help them develop the AR and VR content for the platform. He is also known to work with some of the major players in the video gaming industry.
What can we expect next from Netflix Gaming?
Netflix formally announced its entry into the gaming world in July 2021. The company informed the investors that it hopes to see gaming as another new content category moving into the next quarter.
In a blog post, Mike Verdu, the VP of Game Development at Netflix, said “Just like our series, films, and specials, we want to design games for any level of play and every kind of player, whether you’re a beginner or a lifelong gamer.”
Netflix gaming could definitely be the future of the platform especially with an immense amount of hype for the Metaverse and Web 3.0. It may help Netflix to increase the interests of the masses towards the platform, and bring more versatility.
