WWE is Returning to the UK after 30 years

Will Roman and Drew make history, just like Bret and Davey Boy 30 years ago as WWE announces its first in the UK?

WWE returning to the UK

WWE is coming to the UK for the first time in 30 years since the iconic Summerslam of 1992, in the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

The event is sure to be a spectacle as WWE is announcing the event 5 months in advance, which is being held on 3 September 2022 starring the brightest wrestling stars of this era.

SummerSlam 1992: Last Big Uk Event

The last major event in the UK was the SummerSlam that took place in 1992. The 1992 SummerSlam featured one of the best matches in wrestling history as the main event: Bret Hart Vs ‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith for the Intercontinental Championship.

The PPV featured many more Hall of Famers and Legends like The Undertaker, Ric Flair, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Tatanka and Kamala among others for the main show in Wembley Stadium in London.

The 1992 SummerSlam was an astronomical success as 80,355 attendance was recorded, which is the fourth largest WWE audience only behind the likes of Wrestlemania III, 29 and 32.

Booking a show in the UK has been a massive hit, both critically as Bret Hart and British Bulldog performed of their lifetimes as well as financially, seeing as it gained so much profit for the company.

UK Event Speculation

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the whole world, it was rumoured that WWE was deciding to host a WWE NXT UK Takeover Dublin with Finn Balor and Walter duking it out for the WWE UK Championship in the main event.

The one thing that strikes out since the days of Bret Hart and British Bulldog is that WWE has a lot of wrestlers who are originally from the UK and European countries. Like Finn Balor, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Becky Lynch, and Walter just to name a few.

In addition to that, they have a roster full of only European wrestlers under the brand WWE NXT UK. It will be a sight to behold who they go on showcasing for this event.

One of the biggest things that WWE fans are pleading for is the main event between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre or Roman Reigns and Finn Balor for either of the championship that he holds.

There is a tiny bit of concern in the minds of fans concerning the UK announcement, what kind of event will it be. As SummerSlam is scheduled to be in July in Tennessee. Apart from that if WWE was scheduling any PPVs then they would have promptly announced that to sell more tickets.

The only wish that many of the fans have is that this event, which is happening after about 30 years shouldn’t be another Raw or Smackdown. At the least, they should at least make it a WWE NXT UK PPV instead of a main roster one.

Well, we can just hope for the best, but time and again has proven it correct. The preparations that WWE undertakes are always misleading to the event that happens. So let’s hope that WWE delivers a great show in Wales this coming September.
