£40 million (£40,350,000), a significant increase in the prize pool of the All-England Championship (Wimbledon) one of the grand slams.

At the All England Club in London, the third major of the year will take place between June 27 and July 10. The tournament is expected to break viewership records as it is the first time the event returns to court in full scale. 

The second-highest attendance in Wimbledon history was recorded in 2019 with 500,397 spectators coming out over the course of 13 days.

Wimbledon’s History:

Arguably one of the oldest tournaments in tennis was first held in 1877 at the croquet lawns of the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club. The tournament is also popularly known as All-England Championships.

The tournament has a total of five categories:

  • Gentlemen’s Singles was inaugurated in 1877.
  • Gentlemen’s Doubles (pair) was inaugurated in 1884.
  • Ladies’ Singles was inaugurated in 1884.
  • Ladies’ Doubles (pair) was inaugurated in 1913.
  • Mixed Doubles (pair) was inaugurated in 1913.

  • Novak Djokovic is the men’s singles champion,
  • Ash Barty is the women’s singles champion,
  • Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić are the men’s double champions, and
  • Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova are the women’s double champions which was last held in 2019.

Looking at the history of the tournament, the total sum of prize money distributed from the beginning of the tournament in 1968 till now 2022 accumulates to £40,350,000 ($48843634).

2022 Prize Pool:

For Men’s and Women’s single the winner take an astonishing cash prize of £2,000,000 ($2,507,460) with runner-up and semi-finalist taking £1,050,000 ($1,316,416), £535,000($670,745).The increase in the price is almost done by 17.65% for the winner and runner up and semi-finalist by 16.67% 15.05%.

Incase of Doubles cash prize for winner raised to £540,000 ($677,014) with the Runner-up and semi-finalist taking £270,000 ($338,507), £135,000($169,254).

The increase in the price is almost done by 12.50%.

Lastly in Mixed Doubles cash prize for winner raised to £124,000 ($155,445) with the Runner-up and semifinalist taking £62,000 ($77,722), £31,00($38,861).

The increase in the price is almost done by 24.00%.

In all categories, the prize money is the same making it an equal payout for both male and female categories.
