A gold medal for Ninja Warrior skills is not a far-fetched thought anymore. A ninja warrior style course set will not be included in the Olympics of 2028 which is set to be held in Los Angles. This will form a part of a prominent shakeup of the modern pentathlon.
The Inclusion of Ninja Warrior
TBS, the Japanese network which created the original Ninja Warrior reality contest format said that the signature obstacle course of the show will have experimented with for possible inclusion in the Olympic Games of 2028.
The course of Ninja warrior is being considered an addition to the new fifth discipline of the Modern Pentathlon. Modern Pentathlon is a regular medal sport at the Summer Olympics.
Modern Pentathlon previously comprised five discipline which was equestrian show jumping, fencing, swimming, laser pistol shooting and running. But it was announced in May by the organisers of the Olympics and the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) that an obstacle course would be experimented with as a potential replacement for riding after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Obstacle Sports Under Consideration
As per the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne 2 types of an obstacle, and sports will be considered and experimented for. One would be Ninja Competitions, the game which was made famous globally and was invested by the Ninja Warrior television show and the several localised remakes of it.
The first test is planned to be held in Ankara, Turkey and is scheduled for the end of June, instantly after the UIPM 2022 Pentathlon World Cup Final in Ankara. The Ninja Warrior obstacle course is being provided to the test organisers by TBS, which will be used as a demonstration of the even in Turkey.
The course which will be featured in the event in Ankara is the same one currently used to film the localised versions of Ninja Warrior in Poland, France and other European nations.
As per TBS, the obstacles will feature The Wall Flip, Wind Chimes, Parallel Pipes and Tire Swing. The Ninja Warrior Champions from around the world alongside the Olympic Pentathletes will practice on the 27th of June to compete for the first time.
Implementation of Ninja Warriors
“UIPM has undertaken a comprehensive and transparent process to transform Modern Pentathlon into one of the most popular, accessible and exciting sports on the Olympic program,” said UIPM president, Dr. Klaus Schormann.
“The upcoming first Obstacle Discipline Test Event in Ankara will be an important step and we look forward to watching pentathletes and obstacle athletes test themselves on the obstacles provided in collaboration with TBS and the Fédération Internationale de Sports obstacles.”
The Program producer at TBS eve expressed that “I am very excited to hear that the program that began in 1997 on TBS has become popular around the world and may now expand its reach even further. I am looking forward to seeing Ninja Warrior on the Olympic stage as a Modern Pentathlon event.”
A show which first aired in 1997 is not being considered for inclusion in the Olympics seems to be a big win for the show creators.
