Patrick Demarchelier, the famous French fashion photographer who took one of the best captivating and memorable pics of Princess Diana, has passed away on 31st March 2022. He was 78.
The news of his death was confirmed on his official Instagram account in a post saying, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Demarchelier on March 31st 2022, at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Mia, his three sons Gustaf, Arthur, Victor and three grandchildren.”
The ace photographer was contacted by the late Diana, the Princess of Wales in the year 1989 when she saw one of his works on the cover page of Vogue magazine.

Next year, their first shoot produced the well-known black and white photograph of Diana wherein she was seen wearing a strapless dress and tiara.
After some time, the princess asked Mr. Demarchelier to become her personal portraitist. He then became the first non-British official photographer of the Royal Family.

Social media is flooded with condolence messages and tributes not only by his well-wishers and followers but also by many celebrities from the glamour industry like Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, Priyanka Chopra among many others.
American model and media personality, Hailey Bieber paid tribute to the late photographer via Instagram stories by sharing a pic and writing, “Rest in peace incredible @patrickdemarchelier” with a broken heart emoji.
Bella Hadid also shared her pic of the Vogue magazine cover that was shot with Demarchelier by taking to her Instagram handle and writing, “I am grateful to have been lucky enough to be in front of your lens. Most gentle, most legendary, soft but full of life. You will be missed, Patrick. Rest In Peace . and I got to shoot with one of my favorite people ever. @_chuwong. I will miss this day, and you dear Patrick…….”

Patrick Demarchelier was born in the year 1943 near Paris. Demarchelier spent his childhood days in Le Havre, Normandy with his family.
On the occasion of his seventeenth birthday, his stepfather gifted him his first Eastman Kodak camera. Demarchelier had a passion for photography that made him learn the process of developing film, retouching negatives.
He initially started photographing friends and weddings. He then relocated to New York City, United States in 1975 to follow his girlfriend.
He discovered fashion photography and started working as a freelance photographer. He not only learned the art of photography but also worked with famous photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Terry King, and Jacque Guilbert.
Across the fashion industry, Patrick Demarchelier was famous for his monochrome portraits. He also appeared in movies like The Devil Wears Prada released in the year 2006. In his career spanning more than four decades, he captured photos of famous personalities like Madonna, Kate Moss, and Beyonce, among others.
He is survived by three sons (Gustaf, Arthur, and Victor) and three grandchildren.
