Last year, Dixie D’Amelio revealed she has been diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Yeah, you read that right. In 2022, Dixie spilled the beans on her premenstrual dysphoric disorder diagnosis. In October 2022, she talked about her health during an Instagram live and stated that she was diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after a few years of health issues.
Then, D’Amelio mentioned that the illness “really affects your moods and your behavior and many different parts of your life.” According to Today, she even took a break from social media to focus on her health.
As per Mayo Clinic, PMDD is “a severe, sometimes disabling extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).” The symptoms of the illness are as follows “extreme mood shifts that can disrupt daily life and damage relationships” and “sadness or hopelessness, anxiety or tension, extreme moodiness and marked irritability or anger.”
At that time, Dixie said, “I wasn’t feeling great and not really sure why. I recently got diagnosed with this thing called PMDD, which is premenstrual dysphoric disorder. It really affects your moods and your behavior and many different parts of your life. I feel like I didn’t realize how much it was affecting me until I got to this point I was in last week.”
She talked about her symptoms and said, “I didn’t realize how much it was affecting me until I got to this point I was in last week. But it really disrupts my life and my attitude and my personality and my relationships and just who I am as a person.”
The Be Happy singer further added, “I have never been so low and just down. And having no idea what was wrong with me was very alarming. I just felt like I had no control over my body or mind and I had no idea what was wrong but it would turn on and off like a light switch. That was very confusing to me because how can I go one day feeling fine and then the next day not wanting to be here anymore?”
D’Amelio stated that she has dealt with the condition for the last 7 years but was only recently diagnosed. She went on to say, “I’m very happy that I know what’s wrong because now I can find better ways to handle my emotions.”
The social media influencer continued, “I’m feeling better now, and I will probably be going through the same thing next month and the month after that.” Then, she stated that she was still learning more about PMDD.
Dixie D’Amelio prioritizes her mental health
Dixie is someone who understands that mental health is equally as important as physical health. In March 2022, she spoke about mental health and disclosed how she prioritizes mental health in her life.
While having a chat with People magazine, the social media content creator said, “It wasn’t a priority for a very long time because [I thought], ‘I’m young, I will figure it out later,’ until I realized it’s probably not the best idea and I’m ignoring a lot of things that can make my everyday life so much easier.”
D’Amelio told the media outlet, “Even though I would love to work out every day and be in the best shape of my life, I don’t always have the time. Being able to focus on my mental health and feel better that way, I’ve seen such a huge change in my life and just how I am as a person.”
Then, the A Letter to Me singer shed some light on her daily routine and said, “My days are a little different from everyone else in the family because I have my normal work schedule, but then I have to go to the studio after. We’re filming all day and then I go to the studio at 8 p.m. and could be there until three in the morning. So I really try to find time during my breaks.”
She added, “I need to breathe, and breathing has really helped me a lot with everything I’ve done. For a long time, I thought it was kind of silly and a waste of time, but now it’s a huge part of my life.”
