National award-winning actress Surekha Sikri died today on Friday, July 16 because of a cardiac arrest in Mumbai. The veteran actress who was 75-year old has been suffering from health issues for some time now.
Her manager Vivek Sidhwani confirmed the news to the media and also said that Suekha Sikri had been suffering from a second brain stroke complication. Last year in September, the ‘Balika Vadhu’ actress suffered from a brain stroke and she was rushed to a hospital then. She was however discharged after a few days. Back in 2018, the actress had been a victim of a paralytic stroke.
Surekha Sikri Dies Today of Cardiac Arrest at 75
Vivek Sidhwani, in his confirmation of Surekha Sikri’s death news to PTI, said, “Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”
Surekha Sikri was married to Hemant Rege and is now survived by her son Rahul Sikri. Surekha Sikri made her way into the films in 1978 with Kissa Kursi Ka. She portrayed different roles in a number of films. Her work even bagged her three National awards for Best Supporting Actress for three of her films – Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995), and Badhaai Ho (2018).

Surekha Sikri – Work Life
Surekha Sikri was born in Uttar Pradesh. She completed her graduation in 1971 from the National School of Drama (NSD). Both her parents were working with her father in the Air Force while her mother was a teacher. She is a popular face in the industry for her amazing roles across all the industries – theatre, films, and television. She is known for her works in Balika Vadhu, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar, Maha Kumbh: Ek Rahasaya, Ek Kahani, Banegi Apni Baat, CID, Kesar, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil, Samay among others. However, her role as Kalyani Devi in Balika Vadhu became extremely popular and she received immense love from the audience.
The actress was last seen in Netflix anthology Ghost Stories last year. This was directed by Zoya Akhtar and Surekha was seen alongside Janhvi Kapoor.
