Kalush Orchestra has won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022
The Ukrainian rap and folk band Kalush Orchestra is the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest. This is the third time that Ukraine has been able to bag victory at the singing competition.
At the grand finale of the show, the winning song Stefania was sung in Ukrainian. It was a perfect blend of rap and traditional folk music. As we all know that right now Ukraine is fighting a battle against Vladimir Putin’s Russia. The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, and it is still going on. We wish that things are better soon.
The frontman of the band also made a plea for the city of Mariupol and its Azovstal plant at the end of their live performance. Psiuk said in English, “Please help Ukraine, Mariupol. Help Azovstal right now.”
What did Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have to say about the band’s win?
The president of Ukraine was quick to congratulate the band Kalush Orchestra on Sunday. He said, “Our courage impresses the world, our music conquers Europe! I am sure that the sound of victory in the battle with the enemy is not far off.”
Usually, the winners of the singing show serve as hosts for the next year, and Zelenskyy further added, “we will do our best” to host next year’s contest in the hotly contested port city of Mariupol.
According to the votes of the jury, Ukraine was in the fourth spot but the tables turned when the fan votes were added. Ukraine won the competition with a record tally in the viewer voting. Nearly 40 nations participated in the singing show.
Who was the runner-up of the show Eurovision Song Contest?
Britain’s Sam Ryder came in the second position, while Chanel of Spain finished third, followed by Sweden’s Cornelia Jacobs and Konstrakta of Serbia in fourth and fifth spots respectively.
