U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Personal Twitter Account Banned

Social media microblogging giant Twitter Inc has banned the personal Twitter account of Republican U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene on 2nd Jan, Sunday.

Twitter took this extreme step as Greene’s tweets have violated the company’s misinformation policy on COVID-19 repeatedly.

She has now become the first member of the congresswoman from Georgia to get her Twitter account blocked permanently. Greene has posted a lengthy tweet on 1st January wherein she compared American life pre and post-pandemic as per her spokesperson Nick Dyer.

Twitter permanently suspends Marjorie Taylor Greene’s personal account

As per a screenshot of the tweet taken by CNN news, it was sent on new year’s day at 1:46 PM ET.

However, her official account @ReptMTG is active on Twitter where she has more than 390,000 followers compared to 465,000 followers on her disabled personal account @mtgreenee.

Along with Greene, accounts of other two Republican members of the House – Jim Banks and Barry Moore have also been suspended temporarily on Twitter.

She posted to her other social media accounts like Telegram and GETTR saying, “Twitter is an enemy to America and can’t handle the truth. That’s fine, I’ll show America we don’t need them and it’s time to defeat our enemies. can’t stop the truth from being spread far and wide. Big Tech can’t stop the truth. Communist Democrats can’t stop the truth.”

This is not the first instance when Greene has been under fire for speaking about the coronavirus pandemic. In June 2021, she had to apologize for comparing requirements like masks and vaccinations to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus to the Holocaust that killed more than 6 million Jews during the second world war.

In January 2021, Twitter locked her account temporarily after she argued with the official person of a state election regarding voter fraud allegations.

Last year after US presidential elections, deadly riots took place in the US capitol which prompted various social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, etc to ban former President Donald Trump from using their services.

This is the fifth instance where her account was suspended. In the month of July’21, it was blocked for 12 hours and again for seven days next month in August’21 for promoting wrong information regarding COVID-19.

As per Twitter’s company policy, any account with five or more strikes deserves a permanent block. Any account that violates the company policy will be suspended for a week for the first four instances. Violation of company policy surrounding Covid-19 for the fifth time will lead to a permanent ban according to Twitter’s Covid-19 misinformation policy.
