Tommy Fury has stated that he was denied entry into the United States by Homeland Security. The professional boxer was to arrive in New York ahead of his scheduled fight with Jake Paul. More details follow in subsequent sections.
Tommy Fury was Denied Entry by Homeland Security
The 23-year-old boxer has said that he has no clue why he was denied entry to the United States. In a video posted on his Instagram page, he revealed that he was pulled aside by Homeland Security on entering Heathrow airport, from where he was supposed to fly out.
He says, “As soon as I entered the airport I got pulled to one side and I was told by a Homeland Security officer that was there, that my ESTA has been denied and I wasn’t able to travel to the USA for a reason that I apparently know.”
“I can stand here and say I have done absolutely nothing wrong and I have no clue why I’m not allowed to travel to the USA. I’ve been training for a fight this whole time and that’s all I’ve been doing. I have no clue why they will not allow me to travel today and neither does any of my team or my lawyers.” he adds.
He also stated that he was visiting the embassy officials to sort the issue out. “So now I’m having to go to the embassies and all this sort of stuff, trying to resolve it and I’m in the middle of training. Guys, I don’t know why this has happened today – it is a massive shock to me and my whole team.” he says.
It was reported earlier this month that the British boxer has been denied entry because of his alleged connections with US crime boss Daniel Kinahan. The boxer has however denied the connections.
Fury-Paul Fight At Risk?
The entry denial issue might put the much-awaited Tommy Fury-Jake Paul fight at the risk of being postponed. Fury and Paul are set for a fight at Maddison Square Garden in August. The fight was earlier scheduled in December last year but was called off after Fury pulled out because of a rib injury.
The WBC heavyweight champion was supposed to face a press conference along with his opponent, social media personality and boxer Jake Paul on Wednesday. The presser has been postponed for now. If the fight also goes for a toss, it will be quite a bummer for the fans who had been eagerly waiting for the event.
Jake Paul Continues The Spat
While Fury awaits entry into the US, his rival Paul has continued a verbal spat with him. After the reports of the entry denial came out, Paul tweeted, “Tommy, no matter how hard u try to get out of this fight, I’m going 2 do everything in my power 2 not let u weasel ur way out.”
“My team & my partners have made it clear the steps u need to take 2 solve ur latest excuse. Take them or admit ur a scared little b***h. #TommyFumbles,” he continued.
