The American hardcore punk band from San Diego, California, is known for their mix of grindcore aggression and new wave experimentation. The band confirmed the news about the sad demise of its talented drummer earlier today (May 1). The statement says:
“This world will miss Gabe as a friend, family member, musician, and artist. He will continue to live on in so many ways and through everyone he has connected with during his time with us. May 1st is his birthday, and we hope that you can find a way to celebrate his life.”
About Gabe Serbian
The American drummer and guitarist, Gabriel Serbian, was born on May 1, 1977. The Locust wasn’t his only contribution to the rock and metal world. He was a founding drummer and earliest guitarist for vegan death metallers Cattle Decapitation.
Gabe joined the San Diego band the Locust in 1998, wherein Gabe originally played the guitar but skipped to drums in 2001. He contributed to all three off the band’s full-lengths, which include the self-titled (1998), Plague Soundscape (2003) and New Erections (2007).
Gabe was also associated with other famous bands like Holy Molar and Dead Cross. Gabe was also a member of Head Wound City, a hardcore/punk rock supergroup. He has performed with Alec Empire, Nic Endo, Charlie Clouser and Merzbow. He also played live drums for Miami IDM/breakcore artist Otto von Schirach on a European tour.
Gabe’s association with bands
The Cattle Decapitation drummer was praised by Dave Lombardo of Slayer, who said that “There’s a band called The Locust. Their drummer is named Gabe Serbian, and their music hits me now like D.R.I. hit me in the early ’80s”. Yea, that’s the effect Gabe has on the minds of metal and punk lovers. Here is a list of all the bands Gabe played for:
- The Locust: American hardcore punk band from San Diego, CA
- Cattle Decapitation: American deathgrind band from California
- Holy Molar: Noise rock band from San Diego
- Head Wound City: American Hardcore punk supergroup

Serbian has helped introduce a generation of kids to experimental heavy music. The Southern Californian elevated Austin’s heavy music scene with his works in local bands like Skycrwaler and recorded an EP burn-bright-burn fastest grindcore outfit Wet Lungs.
There are simply no words. Rest in peace Gabe Serbian. Love to ALL of his family and friends. Gabe was a beautiful human. pic.twitter.com/yrItEiDKDr

Serbian remained a member of The Locust until his death. The band is scheduled to headline an Oblivion Access festival show on May 15, 2022. There is no news that the band would perform amid this tragic loss.
fucking hell Gabe Serbian from The Locust has passed. We toured with them years ago and Gabe was a fucking beast. Dude could make a blast beat swing while hitting as hard as a truck. Unique. One of the best I’ve ever scene & a good guy. Terrible news. ❤️ to his friends & family
