Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Fame Ghanshyam Nayak aka Nattu Kaka Dies at 77




Popular television actor Ghanshyam Nayak, known for portraying the character of Nattu Kaka in Sony SAB’s much-loved show, ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ has died on Sunday, October 3, after putting up a fight with cancer. He took his last breath today at around 5:30 pm at Mumbai’s Suchak Hospital.

The senior actor of the show has gone through surgery last year after he was diagnosed with having eight knots in his neck. Post his diagnosis of cancer, he started to take chemotherapy sessions.

Sharing the news, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Asit Kumarr Modi took to his Twitter account and wrote, “Hamare pyaare #Natukaka @TMKOC_NTF hamare saath nahi rahe (Our beloved Nattu Kaka is no more).”

Asit also wished that Ghanshyam’s family get enough strength to handle the loss of the late actor. He said that Nattu Kaka will always be missed.

The late actor has worked in more than 100 Hindi and Gujarati films throughout his acting career. His acting credit also includes his performance in more than 100 Gujarati plays.

Additionally, he also did dubbing work for over 350 Gujarati films. He even dubbed for legendary actor Kanhaiyalal in the Hindi movie Ek Aur Sangram as well as Bhojpuri film Bairi Sawan.

He gained huge recognition for his role as “Nattu Kaka” aka “Natwarlal Prabhashankar Udhaiwala” in “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah”.

Tanmay Vekeria, who is seen playing the role of Bagha in the popular show while speaking to a leading daily said, “I got the news first as his son called me at 5:45 pm. His condition failed to improve after his hospitalization a few months back. He passed away today at 5:30 pm. He was a gem and was closest to me. He tried his best to work again with us but his health did not permit. I am very saddened that he is gone.”

Ghanashyam Nayak is also known for playing the character of Vithal Kaka in the 1999 superfit film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which features Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Jennifer Mistry, portraying the role of Roshan Kaur Sodhi in the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah said, “We just got to know about the news and it is extremely sad we have lost him.”

Speaking about his battle with cancer, Ghanashyam Nayak shared with a news portal, “I am absolutely fine and healthy. There’s no such big issue. In fact, viewers will get to see me in an episode of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah tomorrow. It is a very special episode and I hope they will like my work again.”

Ghanashyam Nayak was seen in television shows – Khichdi (Hindi), ManiMatku (Gujarati), Philips Top 10, Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka, Dill mill Gaye, Sarathi, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, and Chhuta Chheda (Gujarati).
