Suspected cocaine found at White House
Yeah, you read that right. On Sunday evening, the White House was evacuated while POTUS Joe Biden was away at the Camp David residence. Around the same time, law enforcement officials discovered a white substance.
According to BBC, the US Secret Service has stated that the white substance identified as cocaine was found in a work area at the secure building during a routine inspection. The Washington Post was the first media outlet to report the preliminary positive test.
When the white powder was found at the White House, Joe Biden and his family were at the Camp David residence. It has been reported by the media outlet that the White House complex was evacuated at somewhat around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday as fire and emergency crews stepped into the complex to do a rapid test.
As per a report by CBS News, the white powder was found by law enforcement officials in a storage facility in a cupboard that is used by White House staff and guests on a regular basis to store mobile phones.
In a statement issued to BBC, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi mentioned that the Secret Service officers found the white powder “inside a work area” of the West Wing.
Anthony went on to reveal that the fire department was quickly called and the white powder found was considered to be “non-hazardous.” Soon after the investigation, the White House complex was reopened and the white substance was sent for testing. Later on, the white powder was identified as cocaine.
According to AP News, the Secret Service said, “The item was sent for further evaluation and an investigation into the cause and manner of how it entered the White House is pending.”
