‘Sixteen Candles’ Actress Carlin Glynn Dies at 83, Cause of Death Revealed

Carlin Glynn best known for playing the role of Brenda Baker in the 1984 hit show Sixteen Candles has died. The prominent actress and singer passed away at the age of 83 on July 13, 2023.

What was the cause behind the death of Carlin Glynn?

The Tony-winning actress Carlin Glynn is no longer with us. Her daughter Mary Stuart Masterson confirmed the news on Instagram. She revealed in the Instagram post that her famous mom died of complications from dementia and cancer.

Mary started by writing, “On Thursday, July 13th, my mother, Carlin Glynn Masterson, passed away. I was with her. I will always be grateful for those last moments, no matter how hard.”

She further added, “Death is like birth in the oddest way. From my first breath to her last. This thread is as fragile as it is strong. She was the most graceful clumsy person you would ever meet. Strong, smart, silly, intuitive, kind, generous, passionate and a deep listener.”

Masterson went on to say, “She was devoted to my father and to the enormous circle of students and collaborators who were considered her chosen family.” She concluded, “Rest in peace, mommy.”

The slideshow of pictures also consisted of a picture from Carlin’s 80th birthday party. In the snap, she can be seen wearing a crown and embracing her son, Peter Masterson Jr. Mary penned, “The last photo is from her 80th birthday party, before the worst of dementia and cancer took their toll.”

Who was Carlin Glynn?

For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you that Carlin Glynn was an actress and singer who was born on February 19, 1940, in Cleveland. She was brought up in Houston. As per her IMDb bio, she attended the Mirabeau B. Lamar High School.

After completing high school, Glynn moved to New York to study at The Actors Studio under Stella Adler and Wynn Handman. Later on, she shifted back to Houston, where she met her actor husband Peter Masterson.

Carlin tied the knot with her husband Peter Masterson in the year 1960. Then, she went back to New York City to pursue her acting career. She left the showbiz to raise the pair’s kids.

Glynn made her acting debut in the 1975 film Three Days of the Condor, alongside Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway. She essayed the character of Mae Barber in the movie. She also starred in Sixteen Candles and The Trip to Bountiful.

Carlin Glynn was pre-deceased by her husband Peter Masterson in 2018. She is survived by her kids: Mary Stuart Masterson, Alexandra Masterson, and Peter Masterson, Jr.
