Kesha and Dr. Luke have settled their long-standing legal dispute
Yeah, you read that right. Kesha and producer Dr. Luke have finally put an end to a dispute that lasted for almost a decade and affected both of their music careers as well. Recently both Kesha and Dr. Luke issued statements on their respective social media accounts that said the two “agreed to a joint resolution of the lawsuit.” The settlement sees the light of day a month before the trial that would have kicked off next month.
In a statement released, Kesha said, “Only God knows what happened that night. As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened. I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter in my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”
On the other hand, Dr Luke whose full name is Lukasz Gottwald also put out a statement that read, “While I appreciate Kesha again acknowledging that she cannot recount what happened that night in 2005, I am absolutely certain that nothing happened. I never drugged or assaulted her and would never do that to anyone.”
He further added, “For the sake of my family, I have vigorously fought to clear my name for nearly 10 years. It is time for me to put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life. I wish Kesha well.”
Here’s all you need to know about Kesha and Dr. Luke’s legal dispute
The legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke began when the We R Who We R singer claimed in a 2004 civil in California that she should be released from her recording contract with Dr. Luke. At that point in time, she claimed that he had “sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused” her since she was a teenager.
The next year, Kesha stated that she was drugged and raped by Dr. Luke after a party. Then, no criminal charges were filed in the legal case. Kesha and Dr. Luke collaborated on two No. 1 hits together, 2009’s “Tik Tok,” and “We R Who We R,” in 2010.
But all was not going well between the singer and the music producer. In a media interview, Kesha even revealed that verbal abuse about her appearance and weight caused her extreme stress.
Then, Dr. Luke’s attorneys mentioned that the rape and abuse accusations were “extortionist threats” stemming only from contract negotiations. In a 2011 sworn deposition, Kesha said, “Dr. Luke never made sexual advances at me.”
