Robert De Niro is going through a tragic personal loss as his grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, has passed away. He was only 19. Leandro was the son of Robert’s eldest daughter, Drena De Niro.
The deceased was an actor himself who appeared in a few films along with his mother. His death was confirmed by Drena with a heartfelt social media post on Sunday. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.
Robert De Niro’s Grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez Dies at 19
Drena took to Instagram on July 2nd to announce the sad news of her son’s demise. “My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now,” she wrote posting a picture of Leandro.
“I wish I was with you. I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama. You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you,” she added.
Drena also tagged Leandro’s father Carlos Mare in the post and wrote, “I’m so sorry my baby, I’m so sorry @carlosmare 😢💔. Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy 🙏🏽💔💔💔.”
Mare, meanwhile, expressed his sadness in the comments: “Words aren’t enough to express the joy he gave us or the loss we now endure with our families and friends. He is Godschild now.” A number of celebs, including Naomi Campbell, Andy Cohen, and Rosie Perez paid condolences and expressed shock with their comments on the post.
Leandro was Found Unconscious in New York
The details around Leandro’s death have not been made public yet, however, the NYPD has confirmed that he was found unconscious on Sunday around 2:23 pm and was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.
Leandro was an actor by profession, mostly known for his role in 2018’s A Star is Born, which starred Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. He also starred in The Collection along with Drena De Niro in 2005 and in Cabaret Maxime in 2018.
Robert De Niro Issues Statement
Following his grandson’s untimely death, Robert De Niro has expressed his grief with a statement. The legendary actor said, “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
Drena also added to the statement: “It is with immeasurable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we are given privacy at this time to process this inconsolable grief.”
