Ricky Martin has called it quits with his husband Jwan Yosef. The Puerto Rican singer and his Swedish painter husband are filing for divorce after six years of marriage. The couple made the announcement on social media on Thursday.
Martin and Yosef will now continue to co-parent their two children: daughter Lucia and son Renn. The couple first met each other in 2015 after connecting on Instagram and soon fell in love. They tied the knot two years later in 2017.

The couple shared a joint statement on Instagram on June 6th, announcing that they have decided to end their relationship. “For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect, and dignity for our children…”
“….preserving and honoring what we experienced as a couple all of these wonderful years. Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and relationship centered on our genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children,” read the statement.
The couple further thanked their fans and followers for their love and support over the years and stated that they will be ‘united in nurturing this new chapter of their lives apart.’ Martin captioned the post with a white heart emoji and turned off the comments.
Martin and Yosef Met Through Instagram in 2015
The 51-year-old singer connected with the 38-year-old artist on Instagram in 2015. The two then met for the first time in London six months later and began dating each other. The couple went public with their relationship in 2016 by appearing together at the amFAR Inspiration Gala red carpet.
They got engaged in November of the same year. “We just got engaged. I proposed. I was really nervous. I got on my knees. Instead of saying, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something. I want to spend my life with you.’ And he was like, ‘What is the question?’ [I said] ‘Would you marry me?’ He said yes,” Martin revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“He’s a conceptual artist, and I’m a collector. So I started looking for art and I saw his art and I went crazy because I love what he does, really original, and I contacted him — and then I collected him,” the Livin’ La Vida Loca singer added.
The Couple Got Married in 2017
Martin announced the news of his wedding to Yosef in an interview in January 2018. “I’m a husband, but we’re doing a heavy party in a couple of months. We exchanged vows, and we’ve swear everything, and we’ve signed all the papers that we needed to sign, prenups and everything,” he said at the time.
The couple welcomed their daughter Lucia in the same year, followed by son Renn in 2019. Martin is also a father to two sons, Matteo and Valentino, who he welcomed through surrogacy in 2008.
