Ray Romano Discloses He Underwent Heart Surgery for 90% Blockage in His Artery

Ray Romano is spilling the beans on a recent health scare! Not long ago, the Everybody Loves Raymond alum made an appearance on the latest episode of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast and he revealed that he underwent a procedure after 90% of the main artery in his heart was blocked.

Luckily, the 65-year-old actor underwent heart surgery to get rid of the blockage in the main artery of his heart which could have led to a widow-maker heart attack. Read on to know how is Ray Romano feeling right now.

Ray Romano reveals he underwent heart surgery to avoid widow maker heart attack

While making an appearance on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast, Ray said, “I just had to have a stent put in. I had 90 percent blockage. I got kinda lucky that we found it before having a heart attack.” On the podcast, he disclosed that he went on to avoid going on cholesterol meds.

The actor also shed some light on his struggles with cholesterol for the last 20 years. He further added, “I had high cholesterol 20 years ago. Every time, I said, ‘Let me do it myself.’ And I would go home, and I would eat right. Not vegan, but I would eat a little healthier and get it down a couple ticks.”

Although, he mentioned that he would always go back to unhealthy foods and couldn’t maintain a healthy diet, which may have resulted in the blockage in his artery.

The Somewhere in Queens star said, “Now because I’m on the meds, my cholesterol dropped right away.” Ray who is pre-diabetic now also confessed, “If I could go back 20 years, I would have gone on the meds. It was hard for me to sustain that diet stuff.”

Ultimately, the doctors found 90 percent blockage in the main artery of Romano’s heart. For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, people with blockages in the main artery can suffer a heart attack which is well-noted by the name of the widow maker because of how dangerous it is.

Romano continued, “I had to have a stent. I got kinda lucky that we found it. In the main artery — what they call ‘the widow maker,’ I had a stent put in. Now, I’m on the meds and my cholesterol dropped — right away it dropped.”

Earlier this month, Ray Romano decided to visit a cardiologist after suffering some chest pains

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Romano stated that earlier this month, he paid a visit to a cardiologist after he experienced some chest pains during work.

At that time, he said, “I called my agent at one in the morning because I couldn’t sleep. I go, ‘I can’t do it, can’t do this. Because — I’m not joking — I had to go to my cardiologist in New York and get on the treadmill and do a stress test because I was getting chest pains.”

We are glad to know that Ray Romano is absolutely fine now. Don’t forget to stay tuned for the latest updates from the world of showbiz.
