Mystikal has been arrested on charges including first-degree rape and domestic abuse in Louisiana. As per authorities, the rapper was taken into custody on July 31 and remains in  Ascension Parish Jail currently.

The 51 year old New Orleans native is facing several other charges as well, including robbery, false imprisonment and criminal damage to property, according to Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office records. Read on to know the complete details of the development.

The Victim has Sustained Minor Injuries

As per official reports, deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office were sent to a local hospital after there was a call in reference to sexual assault. The victim was interviewed by the officers, and Mystikal was identified as the suspect.

As per the officers, the victim has suffered minor injuries. The rapper, whose real name is Michael Tyler, now awaits arraignment, and a bail amount has not been set yet. Tyler, who made his debut with his album Mystikal in 1994, is the father of two kids, Million and My’chelle. He rose to fame with his 2000 hit song Shake Ya Ass.

The Rapper Was First Charged With Sexual Assault in 2003

This is not the first time Mystikal has been charged with sexual abuse and sent to prison. In 2003, he pleaded guilty to sexual battery and was sentenced to six years in prison. At the time, the victim had said that Tyler forced her to perform oral sex. In 2012, he went to prison again, this time on the charge of domestic abuse.

Then, in 2016, he was accused of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping for allegedly assaulting a woman at a casino in Shreveport, Louisiana. The rapper pleaded innocent but spent 18 months in prison. In 2019, he was released on a $3 million bond.

Mystikal had Talked About his Past Mistakes in 2021

In an interview in April 2021, the rapper had talked about his past mistakes and how he was a changed man now. He said at the time, “When I look back and listen to the music, man—I was a nasty lil’ rapper! A lot of my music now, I imagine myself rapping it to God and if I can rap it, I’m proud.”

He further told that his legal battles felt like a reoccurring bad dream. “I didn’t know how it was going to work out…Don’t put yourself in situations where things like this can happen. I’m too old for that. I don’t do the groupies on the road. I don’t perform at the show and get the ladies (excited) and get her all goo-goo eyed and take advantage (of being a celebrity)…That was a young Mystikal,” he said.

He further said that he had learned from his past mistakes, though people may not forgive him. “I can’t do nothing about that, but I try to understand where they’re coming from. At this point in age, I’m just grateful to still be able to participate. At my concerts, man, I still (have a) packed house after all this time. It’s amazing,” he added.
