In a tragic turn of events, K-pop star Moonbin passed away at the age of 25. The ASTRO member was found dead in his apartment in South Korea on April 19th. His management company has confirmed the development.
The local police are investigating the case as a suicide. Moonbin started his career as a child model and actor. He went on to appear in several shows and made his singing debut with ASTRO in 2016.
ASTRO Boy Band Member Moonbin Found Dead in Seoul
Moonbin was found dead in his apartment in Gangnam, Seoul on the night of April 19th. His manager went to his apartment around 8:10 pm KST and immediately called the police. The Seoul Gangnam Police Station is now investigating the case.
“It appears that Moonbin took his own life. We are currently discussing the possibility of an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death,” the police revealed. Moonbin’s management agency, Fantagio, announced the shocking news to his fans with a statement: “First, we apologize for having to convey this sorrowful and heartbreaking news.”
“On April 19, Moonbin suddenly left us and has now become a star in the sky. Although it cannot compare to the grief of the bereaved family that had to part with their beloved son and brother, his fellow artists and the staff here at Fantagio, who have been together with him for a long time, are also deeply mourning the departed amidst tremendous shock and sorrow.”
Moonbin was Scheduled to Perform at Dream Concert Next Month
After starting his career as a child star, Moonbin appeared in a number of shows including Boys over Flowers, Moment of Eighteen, The Mermaid Prince, The Ultimate Watchlist of Latest Trend, and Food Avengers.
In 2016, he debuted with the all-boy band ASTRO. The group released three albums, with the latest, Drive to the Starry Road, released in May last year. In 2020, Moon Bin collaborate with his bandmate Yoon San-ha to form the subunit Moonbin & Sanha and released their first album In-Out.
The duo also launched their new EP, Incense, in January 2023, with the lead single Desire. They were scheduled to perform at the Dream Concert in Busan, South Korea in May this year.
Fans Shocked by the Singer’s Death
The world, and especially K-pop fans, are shocked and saddened by the tragedy. “I’ve been a moonbin fan since debut, watching back at the movie clips makes me cry even more. I hope his family and all aroha will mourn and grieve at their own pace. Moonbin, thank you being in my life for 2612 days, rest well my angel,” tweeted a fan.
Another expressed their grief by writing, “to my sweet, sweet moonbin…i’m struggling to put into words how heartbreaking this is but i hope you find peace and light up the night sky for eternity. it is an honour to be your fan and i’m so grateful i met you in this life time. i love you forever and always.”
“moonbin was a loving brother and son to his family, a trustworthy person to his friends, and a dependable idol to his fans. you lived a life worth remembering for. thank you for sharing this lifetime with us. i love you so much,” tweeted a fan.
