The Miss World 2021 finale which was scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico on Thursday, December 16 has been postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases.
The organizers of Miss World have made the official announcement regarding the postponement of the Miss World finale as several contestants as well as staff have been infected by COVID-19. The finale is expected to be held within 90 days.
Miss World beauty pageant has been postponed taking into consideration the health and safety interest of contestants, organization staff, and the general public.
Miss World 2021 has been postponed amid COVID-19 fears
Miss World in a press release made the announcement as: “After meeting with the virologists and medical experts hired to oversee the Miss World 2021 event and discussing with the Puerto Rico Health Department, the decision has been made by the organizers of the event to postpone the globally broadcast finale at the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot to be held within the next 90 days.”
A number of contestants set to participate in the beauty pageant have tested positive for COVID-19. Following this, the decision to postpone the finals has been taken.
Miss World in its statement said, “Once and only when contestants and staff are cleared by health officials and advisors, will contestants and related staff return to their home countries.”

Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World Ltd said, “We are very much looking forward to the return of our contestants, (who we have grown to know and love), to compete for the Miss World crown.”
17 contestants and staff members have been infected by COVID-19 which led to this decision.
Manasa Varanasi who is representing India at the 70th edition of the Miss World pageant is also one among those who have tested positive for COVID-19. Going by a statement shared by Femina Miss India, the national arm of the beauty pageant, Manasa is currently in isolation in Puerto Rico.
The statement read, “We, at the Miss India Organization, were in great disbelief that Ms. Varanasi might not be able to grace the world stage in spite of her immense hard work and dedication, however her safety is of utmost priority to us. We pray for their health and wish a speedy recovery for all those infected.”

Femina Miss India also thanked Ms. Morley for calling off the finale and said that the Miss World organizers gave priority to the health of the team as well as other contestants of the pageant.
23-year old Manasa who was crowned Miss India World 2020 was born in Hyderabad. She works as a financial data exchange analyst.
