Marvin Gaye III Arrested for Domestic Violence and Assault
Marvin allegedly pointed a gun at his wife and cousin after a heated argument. The problem reportedly started over a previous assault and soon escalated. Marvin is said to be having some issues with his wife for quite some time now.
Sheriff deputies were called to their home in Calabasas, California, around 8 pm on January 12 for a ‘family dispute,’ but Marvin had already left the place in his Corvette. When police reached the spot, they surrounded the home and asked the 54 year old to come out, thinking he was still inside. However, his neighbors told them he had driven away in his sports car.
Investigators then met his family members and registered an assault report, in which Marvin was identified as a suspect. The next day, he went to the Sheriff’s station himself around 5 pm and surrendered. He was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon but was released on a $50,000 bond.
The office also issued an emergency protective order to make sure that Marvin stays away from his family members and home. Investigators have recovered two firearms from his home. More details on the investigation are awaited.
The attorney of the victims, Gil Arbel, has told the media that both his clients ‘are still distraught and intend to cooperate fully with law enforcement in pressing charges’. They have also asked the public to respect their privacy.
Marvin Gaye III is the Adopted Son of Singer Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye III was adopted by singer Marvin Gaye Jr. and his wife, Anna Gordy Gaye when he was only a few days old. He was born to Anna’s niece, Denis Gordy, on November 17, 1965, when she was only 16 years old. Marvin III shared a problematic relationship with his father, but the singer named him after himself ‘to keep up with tradition.’
Marvin Jr. was murdered by his own father, Marvin Gay Sr., in 1984 after an altercation at home. Marvin III is now a father himself. His first son, Marvin IV, was born in 1995, followed by his second son Dylan in 2000.
In 2013, he made headlines for his $7.4 million lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams. The Gaye family had filed a case of copyright infringement over Thicke and Williams’ song Blurred Lines. The family had accused the two of using their father’s song Got to Give It Up (1977) without permission. They eventually won the lawsuit and were paid $5.3 million in damages.
