Crime Rate in Chicago

According to the latest data released from the city in the month of May, murders were down by 6 percent whereas shooting incidents were up by 13 percent compared to last year. However, both incidents of murder and shooting are way higher than what was reported during the time period between 2018-2020.

Steps Initiated by Chicago Mayor

Lori Lightfoot, Mayor of Chicago decided to tackle this exponential growth in gun violence head-on by announcing new limitations on minors in the recent past. He announced measures like a 10 PM curfew for minors in the entire city and a 6 PM curfew at all public parks unless accompanied by an adult.

This incident is the latest this month after Tuesday’s horrific school shootout at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas that took the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers, and a recent shooting at a supermarket store in Buffalo.

The Chicago Police department has requested help from the community in identifying and finding out the details of the person who they are now calling “a person of interest”.
