Khloé Kardashian’s little munchkin Tatum Thompson was originally named something else! Ten months after the baby was born, it has been revealed that he was not given his father, Tristan Thompson’s surname in the beginning, and bore his mother’s surname, Kardashian.
However, Khloé later decided to incorporate the Thompson last name. Tatum was born via surrogacy in July 2022, just a month after it was revealed that Tristan had gotten Maralee Nichols pregnant while being in a relationship with Khloé.
Khloé Initially Gave ‘Kardashian’ Surname to Her Son, Later Changed It to‘Thompson’
Sources close to the reality star have revealed that she originally kept her son’s surname as Kardashian in all the legal documents. The move was understandable as the child was born at a time when the socialite suffered a massive heartbreak at the hands of Tristan Thompson.
While the former couple was waiting for the arrival of Tatum through surrogacy, Tristan impregnated Maralee Nichols. Things ended on bad terms between the two, however, they eventually moved on and are now happily co-parenting their 5-year-old daughter, True Thompson, along with Tatum.
It is expected that Khloé eventually buried the hatchet and thus decided to legally change her son’s surname to Thompson. The reality star was once again spotted with Tristan last week at her daughter’s pre-kindergarten graduation.
Khloé Talked About Her Son’s Nickname on the Recent Episode of The Kardashians
Tatum’s name was also a topic of discussion in the recent episode of The Kardashians. In one of the sequences, Kris Jenner lovingly called her grandson, “Hi, Rob. Hi, my little pumpkin,” to which Khloé responded, “No, Tatum’s good. We could call him Tate. Everybody’s gonna call him Tate.”
However, she quickly rolled back her decision and said, “No, never gonna happen.” She previously talked about what took her so long to announce her son’s name to the world and explained, “Naming a human is really hard!”
The Reality Star Revealed It Took Her Months to Connect with Tatum
Just last week, Khloé made another revelation about her son and said that she struggled to form a connection with him after he was born via surrogacy. “Compare it to True and him, it’s a different experience. The connection … took days with True. With him, it’s taking months and we still don’t have a complete bond,” she told Kris on The Kardashians.
Khloé added that she feels guilty about the situation. “I don’t treat him differently, just question myself sometimes. I’m very kind to everyone else, I’m just not very kind to myself. But being a mom is truly one of the most magical experiences ever,” she stated.
The Good American founder previously admitted that welcoming a child through a surrogate was hard for her. “It’s a mindf–k. It’s really the weirdest thing,” Khloé said to which her sister Kim replied, “I do think there is a difference when your baby is in your belly, the baby actually feels your real heart. Think about it.”
