Justin Bieber’s dad is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Jeremy Bieber recently posted an offensive message on Twitter against the LGBTQIA+ community, sparking backlash from people around the globe.
The 48-year-old shared a meme mocking Pride Month on June 7th. After severe backlash, he took the post down but doubled down on his thoughts with another tweet. Read on to know what Jeremy said in his insensitive post.
Justin Bieber’s Father Jeremy Posts Offensive Message About Pride Month
On Wednesday, Jeremy took to Twitter to post a picture of the Pride flag with a message that read, “Don’t forget to thank a straight person this month for your existence.” The meme mocked that LGBTQIA+ people cannot have children, overlooking the options of adoption, surrogacy, and IVF treatments.
Several Justin Bieber fans then called out Jeremy for the post. He took down the meme a few hours later and posted a not-so-earnest apology. “Acknowledging the nuclear family is offensive? My apologies to those offended. Was not my intent. Not that my opinion matters,” he wrote.
Just two days ago, Jeremy had posted another tweet that again targeted the queer community and Pride month, without naming anyone. “We need to celebrate families. U know the reason we’re all here! The things this generation glorifies is unbelievable!” he had tweeted.
Social Media Calls Out Jeremy Bieber for His Remarks
A number of users were pissed off by the anti-LGBTQIA+ remarks from Jeremy and lashed out at him. “what do u know about family? u literally abandoned ur own son then popped in once he became famous so u can use him for money. ur a deadbeat “father” bffr & do everyone a favor and deactivate and keep the lgbtq+ community out ur mouth,” wrote a user.
Another tweeted, “Straight people are not the only people who reproduce. Your sexual orientation does not stop the function of your reproductive organs.” A user also wrote, “Don’t forget to thank LGBTQ families for adopting the children unwanted by the straight people who abandoned them.”
“U were basically just a sperm doner until your son was peddling on the streets to eat. Only after he started become famous did u get back into his life. Your words are disgusting and u should be ashamed!!!” penned another.
Justin has Shared a Tumultuous Relationship with His Father
Justin’s parents, Jeremy Bieber and Pattie Mallette were only 18 when he was born in 1994. The two split shortly after his birth and the singer was raised by his mother alone. Pattie took up low-paying jobs to make ends meet until Justin found stardom in 2008.
Jeremy is also father to daughter Jazmyn and son Jaxon with ex Erin Wagner, and daughter Bay with wife Chelsey Rebelo. Justin reportedly had a tumultuous relationship with his father in the past but continues to support his half-siblings. The pop star has not yet commented on his father’s anti-LGBTQIA+ posts.
The singer himself has never extended explicit support to the queer community. However, he did talk about his thoughts on homosexuality in an interview in 2011 and said, “It’s everyone’s own decision to do that. It doesn’t affect me and shouldn’t affect anyone else.”
