JAY-Z legal battle has finally come to an end. He emerged victorious yet again. Jay-Z was seen smiling when he left a Manhattan courthouse on 10-Nov, Wednesday afternoon.
The judge ruled in his favor saying that he didn’t breach his contract with Parlux Fragrances and Gold in his endorsement deal by the Jay-Z fragrance line.
It’s a big relief for Jay-Z as Parlux has filed a case claiming $67 million in damages, according to Billboard. However, there was no cash award to either party in this case as Jay-Z initially countersued for $6 million in royalties.
Jay-Z emerges victorious in his legal battle over the cologne endorsement deal
Parlux has accused Jay-Z of tanking the promotion of cologne, “Gold by Jay Z” that was launched in 2013, as the company felt he has not done enough to showcase the line and it is a breach of their contract entered in the year 2012.
It was alleged that the jury was influenced by JAY-Z’s attorney argument when he questioned “why on earth” the Roc Nation CEO wouldn’t want a product to succeed which is named after him. In the month of October, the trial was started by the Jury that featured a contentious back-and-forth between Jay and Parlux for three weeks.
Jay-Z claimed, “You have me on trial for something I didn’t do. I did a lot for the Gold Jay-Z launch. I had a year to complete these [obligations], correct? I don’t know if you answered my question. I had a year to complete these right?”
Jay-Z was accused by Parlux of deleting e-mails that could have been presented as evidence against him. In another story published earlier on Tuesday, 9th November quoted that the FBI asked Jay-Z to delete his e-mails as there was a risk of an “imminent” hack on his account.
Jay-Z released an official statement to Billboard saying, “He is being appreciative of the jury’s decision. I’d like to express my gratitude to the jury, especially during these difficult times.”
