Gwyneth Paltrow Wins Ski Crash Trial As Utah Jury Unanimously Rules In Favour

The dust is finally settled in the long-standing legal battle between Gwyneth Paltrow and Terry Sanderson. The Academy-award-winning actress was given a clean chit by the Utah jury, who unanimously ruled in her ski crash trial.

She was facing a lawsuit by the 76-year-old retired optometrist, who sued her for $300,000, alleging that the actress skied into him at the Deer Valley ski resort. Gwyneth, on the other hand, countersued him for just $1 and attorney fees.

Gwyneth Paltrow Gets Victory In Ski Crash Trial

Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow came out victorious in the bizarre ski crash trial against a retired optometrist, Terry Sanderson, who sued her for $300,000 alleging that the actress skied into him in 2016. The accident happened at the Deer Valley ski resort and Terry claimed that it left him with four broken ribs, a brain injury and a concussion.

The bizarre trial, which kept making rounds on the internet for two weeks, ended after the Utah jury deliberated for more than two hours and unanimously decided the verdict in the actress’s favour.

Terry sat with bowed head as Judge Kent Holmberg read out the jury’s verdict Thursday (March 31). The judge granted Gwyneth’s request for $1. “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity,” Paltrow released a statement through. her attorneys. “I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case,” she added.

More About The Ski Crash Trial…

During the trial, jurors were introduced to the testimonies of science and medical experts and eyewitnesses. In addition to this, written testimonies were provided to Gwyneth’s children along with her.

During the arguments, Terry’s attorneys alleged that the “Sliding Doors” star was skiing recklessly down the mountain when she crashed into Terry with a velocity that sent him “flying” in the air. Due to this, he suffered four broken ribs and lifelong brain damage.

Terry testified in court, “All I saw was a whole lot of snow. And I didn’t see the sky, but I was flying.” During closing arguments, Terry’s lawyer, Robert Sykes rejected claims that he was seeking fame and attention. “Part of Terry will forever be on the Bandara run,” Sykes told the jury. “Bring Terry home.”

Terry’s other attorney, Lawrence Buhler prayed to the jurors to consider awarding his client $3.2 million in damages. “When people get to know him, after a while, they don’t want to deal with him anymore,” Buhler said, adding that he’s known Sanderson for six years.

It was argued that the accident affected Terry’s personality and caused people to push him away. “You lose everybody — your family, they’ll put up with you, and maybe the lawyers. But they’re just putting up with you,” Buhler added.

On the other hand, Gwyneth’s attorneys maintained that she was the real victim at the ski resort, and faced enough trouble due to the legal battle that dragged on for years. The 50-year-old actress testified that she’s been skiing with her children when the 76-year-old Terry struck her from behind.

She also added in her testimony that she was so confused and shocked that she thought someone was trying to sexually assault her. As Terry skied into her, it forced her legs apart and she heard a “grunting noise” before the two landed on the ground.

During closing arguments, Paltrow’s lawyer added that his client could have just written a check and gotten done with it. Instead, she chose the right path and pursued the legal battle even though she wasn’t at fault. He added: “It’s wrong that he hurt her, and he wants money from her.” Well, she ain’t paying a penny now.

Shockingly, Sanderson originally sued Gwyneth for $3.1 million but the judge ruled against him. The “Seven” star, on the other hand, countersued him for $1 and attorney’s fees. If you aren’t aware, under Utah law, the downhill skier has the right of way. Paltrow and Terry both claimed that they were the ones downhill.
