Getting To Know Mark Sheehan
Mark Sheehan, a father of three, grew up in the Liberties area of south inner city Dublin. He was married to Rina, an American woman he met in the States, while working as a studio session singer and backing vocalist. The couple tied the knot when Mark was 25 years old.
Mark and his fellow Script band member, Danny O’Donoghue, began their music career with the pop band Mytown, managed by Paul McGuinness, a former manager of U2.
Mark’s father, Gerard, passed away when he was just 14 years old. His mother, Rachel, passed away in 2006 after spending ten months in the hospital. This tragedy brought Mark back to Dublin, where he set up a small studio at the back of his childhood home, located next to the hospital.
He spent nights at the hospital with his mother, writing lyrics and recording music in his studio. Mark’s mother instilled in him a valuable lesson about success. She believed that if people came to watch you perform, then that was a success.
She also taught him not to measure success in terms of money but to follow his dreams and pursue what he loves. Mark is survived by his wife, Rina, and their children, Cameron, Avery, and Lil.
2001 Marked The Beginning Of The Script’s Existence

In 2008, the band was recognized as the best-selling Irish act at the World Music Awards. The following year, they won the Meteor Ireland Music Awards for Best Irish Band and Best Album for their eponymous debut album, “The Script.” The band has also won three BMI Pop awards for their singles “Breakeven,” “For the First Time,” and “Hall of Fame.”
Over the past two decades, The Script has released six studio albums, with their latest album, “Sunsets & Full Moons,” debuting in 2019. In 2021, the band released a compilation album titled “Tales From the Script: Greatest Hits.” In addition, they embarked on a tour to promote the album, playing shows in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. The band is scheduled to perform in the U.K. in June.
The passing of Mark Sheehan is a tremendous blow to the music world and his supporters across the globe.
