German Supermodel Tatjana Patitz Passes Away at 56, Cause of Death Revealed

Tatjana Patitz best known as one of the original supermodels who dominated the world of fashion in the 1980s and 90s commanding huge payouts for photoshoots has died. She passed away at the age of 56 on Wednesday.

What was the cause behind the death of Tatjana Patitz?

As per a report by Page Six, Tatjana Patitz died following a battle with metastatic breast cancer. The supermodel passed away at the age of 56. It’s a big loss for the modeling world.

In a Vogue-published obituary, the fashion bible’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, wrote, “Tatjana was always the European symbol of chic, like Romy Schneider-meets-Monica Vitti.” Wintour went on to say, “She was far less visible than her peers — more mysterious, more grown-up, more unattainable — and that had its own appeal.”

Tatjana Patitz hit the runway for many popular fashion houses

Throughout the course of her modeling career, Tatjana walked the runway for many renowned fashion brands  Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Alaïa, and Helmut Lang. Her last catwalk saw the light of day in the year 2019. At that time, she hit the runway for Etro.

Patitz was considered one of the original supermodels. She shot to fame in the 80s and 90s. Apart from her career as a model, she also starred in a couple of music videos and appeared alongside Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington in George Michael’s Freedom ’90 music video in 1990.

In addition to this, Tatjana also appeared in the Duran Duran video for Skin Trade, as well as Nick Kamen’s music video for Tell Me. In the year 2020, she starred in the Korn music video for the song Make Me Bad.

Patitz was loved by many fashion icons like the late photographer Peter Lindbergh, whose January 1990 British Vogue cover shoot featuring the catwalker alongside Evangelista, Turlington, Crawford, and Campbell kicked off the era of the supermodel.

During an earlier interview with Vogue, Tatjana said, “People always said that I looked special, that I didn’t look like anyone else. And I was going to make it because of that.” And she made her mark in the modeling industry.

Tributes pour in for Tatjana Patitz

The Peter Lindbergh Foundation also offered its condolences on the social media platform Twitter. They started by writing, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tatjana Patitz, a long-time friend of Peter’s.”

The foundation further added, “We would like to salute Tatjana’s kindness, inner beauty, and outstanding intelligence. Our thoughts go to her loved ones and particularly [her son] Jonah. She will be immensely missed.”

Tatjana Patitz is survived by her 19-year-old son, Jonah.
