Legendary former WWE referee Dave Hebner, who served for more than three decades as a referee and backstage official passed away at the age of 73. Hebner died on 17th June at his house in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Brian Hebner, Hebner’s nephew, confirmed his death on his Reffin’ It Up podcast. Brian, the son of his twin brother, did not disclose the cause of his death. He tweeted, “Dave Hebner, rest in peace. Gone, but not forgotten Always adored.”
Cauliflower Alley Club offered condolences to Hebner’s dear ones by tweeting, “The CAC is saddened to hear that legendary referee Dave Hebner has passed away at the age of 73. We send out our sincerest condolences to his family and friends during this most difficult time. R.I.P. Dave.”

Health issues: How did Dave Hebner die?
Hebner was not keeping well for quite some time as he was suffering from several medical issues according to his family. He was struggling with Parkinson’s disease for many years now.
Hebner’s illness was disclosed last month by NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler. Sadler, who was involved in pro wrestling, shared a pic on Twitter where it was evident that Hebner was indeed going through serious challenges with respect to his health.

Who was Dave Hebner?
Dave along with his twin brother, Earl, was born in the year 1949 in Richmond, Virginia. He started doing refereeing during the late 1970s in the nearby area.
After a few years, he joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and was present in the ring for many years including many memorable events like the Randy Savage versus Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III and Randy Savage versus Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania V.
His career at WWF was at perfect timing as WWF rose to international prominence from its erstwhile regional dominance. Over the years, he was promoted and eventually became one of the top officials of the company.
Hebner is best known for his work as a WWE referee. He was involved in the controversial match between Andre The Giant and WWF Champion Hulk Hogan.
Dave participated in several programs like WWF Superstars, WWE F Challenge, Saturday Night’s Main Event, WWE Sunday Night Heat, WWE Raw, and WWE SmackDown in his career spanning more than three decades.
In 2005, Dave Hebner had to retire from refereeing even though he did not want to as he underwent knee replacement surgery. He then started working as a road agent.
Dave met Rebecca when they were very young and married in the year 1968 when Dave was 19 and Rebecca was 17. The couple shares two daughters together – Christina and Becky.
In an interview with Slam Wrestling in 2009, Dave said about his wife, “We’ve been together for 40 years. I stole her out of the cradle. My wife has always been 100 percent behind me in our career.” There is no wife who can compare to my wife.”
