The mixed martial artist Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson passed away recently. The news of the UFC fighter’s death was made public by Bellator MMA. The unfortunate news was announced on social media.

The announcement read, “It is with great sadness we acknowledge the passing of Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. The BELLATOR family is devastated by his untimely passing and we send our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”


Anthony Johnson was fighting a battle with an unspecified disease

As per a report by The Daily Mail, Anthony passed away at the age of 38 after an ongoing battle with an unspecified issue. Last year in September, he was supposed to fight for the Bellator light-heavyweight title but sadly he had to back out due to a health issue.

Over the last couple of years, Johnson’s health problem persisted and last month, the fighter’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz asked all his fans to pray for the fighter. It has been reported by the media outlet that the fighter lost his battle with the illness on Saturday evening.

During an October interview with ESPN, Ali said, “Rumble, he’s going through some health problems right now. It’s very sad. I think, I want everybody to pray for him. Pray for Anthony. It’s not going well. He’s very strong, spiritually. But pray for him.”

As of this moment, Abdelaziz has not revealed the name of the illness that Anthony was going through. In the past, he has talked about Anthony and his situation with his fans on social media.

Ali wrote, ‘Really wish I could go into detail about how ill I truly am. Just know I need as many prayers as I can get and I’ll see you in 2022 God willing. Never been this afraid of anything in my life but I’ve remained strong with the support of friends and family.’

Tributes pour in for Anthony Johnson

Soon after, the news of Anthony’s death popped up on the internet, many stars paid tribute to Anthony. Johnson Cormier shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. He penned, ‘Rest Easy my brother. For a guy who struck fear in so many peoples heart Anthony Johnson was a caring person.’

Cormier further added, “From random text to check ins during loss. What a person he was, Rumble will be missed. Sometimes life doesn’t seem fair. Horrible news #RIP #Rumblesquad @Anthony_Rumble”

UFC commentator John Gooden added, “Heart breaking to learn of the tragic news that Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson has passed away. I have a poster of him by my desk looking powerful. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

UFC welterweight contender Michael Chiesa wrote, “RIP Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. One of the most prolific KO artists our sport has ever seen. My prayers go out to his family and everyone affected by this tragedy.
