The 40-year-old Michigan gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelly is in hot waters for his participation in the Jan 2021 Capitol Riot incident. As per the affidavit filed in Washington federal court, Ryan, 40 participated in the January 6 unrest. The affidavit also includes video, photographs and other information posted on social media as well as phone records to confirm that he was an instigator in the said chaos.

Ryan Instigated Violence on US Capitol…

Some photos and videos reveal that along with several Trump supporters, Ryan Kelly urged the crowd to enter the Capitol. For instance, as per a video from the incident, Ryan can be heard saying, “Come on, let’s go! This is it! This is, this is war baby!”

A poll in May revealed that Kelly led a crowded field of candidates hoping to win the Republican nomination for Michigan governor. Ryan also raised his profile as he previously led protests along with the American Patriot Council against Covid-19 containment policies including masking and vaccination over the past two years.

As for the arrest, Kelly is one of more than 840 people who have been arrested for taking part in the attack on the sear of the US Congress in 2021. Most of them face misdemeanour counts of illegally entering the Capitol and obstructing an official meeting of Congress.

However, around 255 arrested people face criminal charges of assault, theft and conspiracy. Kelly was arrested on Thursday (9 June) and faces four misdemeanour charges, including disorderly conduct. Federal records reveal that he was an active participant in the riot.

As for now, it is not confirmed whether this arrest would affect his gubernatorial campaign or not, but people are certainly beginning to see the truth. Kelly hasn’t spoken anything about this arrest but his Facebook page posted a two-word statement saying: “Political Prisoner”.

On Monday, five members of the far-right Proud Boys group who had an organizing role in the Jan 6 riot were charged with seditious conspiracy, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Bottom Line

Kelly, who is also a real estate agent, is one of the five Republicans on the August primary ballot, competing to take over Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer in November’s general election. The arrest comes hours before a congressional committee investigating the Capitol riots holds its first of at least six public hearings.

Apart from this, Ryan Kelly is already facing a civil suit by the wife of a Washington police officer who committed suicide nine days after suffering injuries in the said riot (allegedly by Mr Walls Kaufman). Kelly has publically accepted his presence at the Jan, 6 Capitol Riot.
