Ex-Argentina Footballer Eduardo Salvio Accused of Running Over his Estranged Wife

Former Atletico Madrid star Eduardo Salvio is now in legal trouble on allegations of running over his ex-wife, Magali Aravena. He is currently on the run from the police.

31-year-old Salvio has appeared 14 times for the national football team. He currently represents Primera Division side Boca Juniors, based in the capital city Buenos Aires since 2019.

The footballer who made his debut in the year 2008 for Lanus has later moved to Atletico de Madrid in Spain and then to Portugal to play for Benfica.

Eduardo Salvio, who was featured in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, is seen speeding away from police in CCTV footage that surfaced on social media. Aravena alleged that she was standing in front of a black Mercedes Benz car with Salvio when the car moved forward and struck her right leg. Salvio was accompanied by another woman.

Salvio, who received 14 caps for Argentina, married Aravena more than a decade ago in 2012 and they share two children together. The couple got separated recently.

Buenos Aires police are currently opening an investigation after the 33-year-old estranged wife of Salvio reported an incident that took place on Thursday morning near the Puerto Madero neighborhood.

According to a source who is privy to the investigation matters stated, “Prosecutors are working to collect evidence. Salvio won’t escape from the police. They have learned about what happened from the report his wife made.”

Police authorities have ordered to immediately seize the vehicle as the details continue to emerge. There is no arrest warrant issued by the police at the time of writing this article.

Salvio fled from the scene immediately after the incident. Magali Avarena was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment as she suffered injuries to her right leg. She then filed a police complaint accusing her ex-husband of “injuries in the context of gender violence”.

A police spokesman said, “The woman went over to speak with her husband, who was in his car with another woman. The suspect drove forward and struck Mrs. Aravena.”

Alberto Crescenti, ambulance chief at Buenos Aires said, “We were called by city police, and found a woman with trauma to her lower right leg. However the injury was light, and she wasn’t taken to hospital.”

Salvio’s lawyer confirmed that his client will be available to the police authorities “to prove his innocence,” and went further to defend him saying they have evidence that he did nothing wrong.

Boca Juniors’ released a statement reaffirming the club’s commitment to issues pertaining to gender and equality saying, “Salvio could face a “warning, suspension, dismissal and expulsion,” according to the club’s protocol regarding inclusion and equality.”

In 2010, Salvio signed for Spanish giants Atletico and won two Europa League titles during his tenure with the club. He scored 10 goals in 69 games in all competitions.

After relocating to his home country in 2019, he joined the Boca Juniors club. During the first season, Salvio won the league title and Copa Argentina and scored 13 goals in 44 games in all competitions.

The police officials are now looking for the ace footballer without knowing his whereabouts.
