‘Everwood’ Star Treat Williams Dies at 71 After Motorcycle Accident

Treat Williams, the talented and prolific actor best known for essaying the character of Dr. Andy Brown in Greg Berlanti’s show Everwood has died. He passed away at the age of 71 after being involved in a motorcycle accident.

Versatile actor Treat Williams is no longer with us. His agent Barry McPherson announced the heartbreaking news of his demise. The Hair actor died after being involved in a motorcycle accident. At the time of his death, he was 71 years old.

McPherson said, “He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him.”

Barry went on to say, “He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”

In a statement issued to Deadline, Williams’ family said, “It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vermont after a fatal motorcycle accident. As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time.”

It further read, “Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it. It is all so shocking right now, but please know that Treat was dearly and deeply loved and respected by his family and everyone who knew him.”

They continued, “We are beyond devastated and ask that you respect our privacy as we deal with our grief. To all his fans, please know that Treat appreciated all of you and please continue to keep him in your hearts and prayers.” Williams’ survivors include his actress wife, Pam Van Sant, and their two kids, Ellie and Gill.

Jacob Gribble, the fire chief for Dorset, shared with People magazine, that the accident saw the light of day around 5 p.m. ET on Route 30 by Long Trail Auto near Dorset, Vermont, and it involved Williams’ motorcycle and a single car.

The cops believe that the driver of the car was turning and didn’t see the motorcycle of Treat. Gribble mentioned that Williams was the only person hurt during the accident. It has been reported by the media outlet, that soon after the crash, he was airlifted to a hospital in New York.

Who was Treat Williams?

Treat Williams was an American actor, writer, and aviator who was born on December 1, 1951, in Stamford, Connecticut to Marian and Richard Norman Williams. He kicked off his film career in the 1970s by starring in films like The Eagle Has Landed, The Ritz, and Deadly Hero.

In 1979, Williams was cast to play the role of George in the movie adaptation of Broadway’s critically acclaimed Hair. He even bagged a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year — Actor for his brilliant performance. Then, he essayed the character of Daniel Ciello in Prince of the City. The role earned him his second nomination in 1981.

In addition to this, Treat also starred in a couple of TV shows. In 2002, he started playing the lead role of Dr. Andy Brown in The WB’s Everwood which ran from 2002 to 2006. He was nominated for a SAG Award for his performance in the drama series. He appeared in TV shows such as Blue Bloods, Chicago Fire, Good Advice, We Own This City, and Chesapeake Shores.

He was also a part of many movies like Steven Spielberg’s 1941, Bonds of Love, The Christmas House, Guilty Hearts, Beyond the Blackboard, The Noel Diary, Safe Harbor and Chasing a Dream, Front of the Class, and Heart of Dixie.
