Donald Trump’s Florida Home Raided By FBI As A Part Of The Presidential Records Probe

Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) raided his Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday (Aug 8) left, right and centre, and broke into his safe. His son acknowledged the raid as a part of an investigation into Trump’s removal of official presidential records from the White House to his Florida residence.

Donald Trump Living On The Edge

If you think carefully or carelessly, there will be only one thing that would be inferred about Donald Trump. He is addicted to chaos. Recently, the FBI raided the former president’s Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago as a part of the presidential records probe on Monday (Aug 8).

The FBI executed a search warrant around 6 pm ET which appears to have been related to an investigation into Trump unlawfully taking White House classified documents with him to Mar-a-Lago after his presidency. The search warrant was obtained after citing “probable cause”.

In this case, the probable cause remains that the records were being kept at Mar-a-Lago. The very presence of government records at the resort is a potential crime, according to top former FBI officials who spoke to the Guardian on the condition of anonymity.

The search concern boxes of classified documents that Trump tagged along with him from the White House to the Florida club per reports. It also cites two unnamed people familiar with the investigation.

Trump was not present at his estate at the time of the raid and was in the New York area per several reports. Justice Department spokesperson Dena Iverson declined to comment on the search, including about whether Attorney General Merrick Garland had personally authorized the search.

Trump Calls The Raid ‘Prosecutorial Misconduct’

NCB News reporter, Cristian Benavides, posted a series of videos of supporters at the scene. “The crowd near Mar-A-Lago continues to grow into the night following that search warrant earlier today,” he said.

Following the search, Trump said in a message on his social media forum Truth Social that his home had been “raided, and occupied” and was “currently under siege.” “Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.” The raid comes as the Justice Department is examining the actions of Trump in its criminal investigation of efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. That probe is separate from the department’s investigation into his handling of classified materials.

Trump called the raid a politically motivated move by Democrats who don’t want him to run again in 2024.  “It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024,” he wrote. He also compared the FBI search to “an assault [that] could only take place in broken, Third-World Countries” and also to the Watergate scandal.

What does The Law say?

There are multiple statutes governing classified information — including a law punishable by up to five years in prison — that makes it a crime to remove such records and retain them at an unauthorized location. Another statute makes it a crime to mishandle classified records either intentionally or in a grossly negligent manner. Not only this but Trump has also been accused of attempting to destroy presidential records.

The National Archives has said that some of the records it received back from the former president had been torn up, according to the Wall Street Journal. Former acting US Solicitor General stated that this search makes it likely that Trump is the target of a criminal investigation by the justice department and said his lawyer should be advising him about possible jail time.

Trump’s Followers Defend The Madman

Soon after the search, a large crowd of Trump supporters gathered outside the Florida estate holding flags late evening on Monday. NCB News reporter, Cristian Benavides, posted a series of videos of supporters at the scene. “The crowd near Mar-A-Lago continues to grow into the night following that search warrant earlier today,” he said.

As for Republicans, they are extremely furious with this raid and have claimed that the search showed the justice department is waging a politically motivated witch-hunt. House minority leader Kevin McCarthy said the raid was evidence of “weaponized politicization” at the justice department.

Despite Trump’s potential law-breaking, several GOP lawmakers have lined up behind him to denounce the Justice Department and FBI’s unannounced search. “I’ve seen enough,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a statement. “The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization.”

He threatened to conduct “immediate oversight” of the department and “leave no stone unturned” if Republicans take back the House.  “Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar.” Right-wing Rep. Lauren Boebert also attacked the FBI, saying the GOP must set up a Select Committee to investigate the “politically-motivated” raid.

If you aren’t aware, in January, the National Archives and Records Administration (Nara) prepared to transfer records from the Trump White House to the House select committee investigating Jan 6 Riot and found around 15 boxes worth of material improperly taken to Mar-a-Lago. Trump previously came under scrutiny for his massive violations of the Presidential Records Act.

However, the first raid marks potential legal jeopardy for Trump over his records-keeping. The chairperson of the House Oversight Committee, which is leading the congressional investigation into mishandled documents, released a statement saying: “Presidents have a solemn duty to protect America’s national security and allegations that former President Trump put our security at risk by mishandling classified information warrant the utmost scrutiny.”

At the end of his statement, Donald Trump called for donations to his “Save America” PAC. On the other hand, a senior White House told in an interview the West Wing was given no advanced heads-up of the FBI search on former President Trump’s Florida home. Well, the war behind finding the truth continues.
