Disney Star and Pop Singer Coco Lee Dies at 48, Know the Cause of her Death

Disney singer and pop star Coco Lee best known for voicing the character of Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney’s hit movie Mulan is no longer with us. According to a report by TMZ, the Hong Kong-born entertainer died by suicide.

At the time of her passing, Coco was 48 years old. It has been reported by the media outlet that her sisters Carol and Nancy confirmed the news of her demise on their social media pages. They revealed that Lee committed suicide at her home on Sunday. Read on to know more details about the cause of Coco’s death.

Famed Disney star Coco Lee, well-known by the fans for lending her voice to the character of Mulan in the Mandarin version of the popular film has died. It has been revealed that she committed suicide. She passed away at the age of 48.

Lee’s two sisters Carol and Nancy have told the media outlet TMZ, that she committed suicide at her home on Sunday. Soon after, she was taken to a hospital, where she went into a coma. She passed away on Wednesday despite all the efforts made to save her life.

Coco Lee suffered from depression for many years

Yes, you read that right. Lee’s family disclosed that she suffered from depression for most of her life. In order to deal with depression, she even sought some professional help but unfortunately, her condition worsened over the last couple of months and sadly, she took her own life.

Keeping aside her work for Disney, Coco was also a singer. She sang an Oscar-nominated song called, A Love Before Time, in the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The song was well-received by the viewers.

For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, Coco Lee was born in Hong Kong. Back in the day, she went to middle school and high school in San Francisco. Around the same time, she won the title of 1991’s Miss Teen Chinatown.

Lee became the first Chinese singer to make a name for herself in America. She shot to fame with her song Do You Want My Love which landed on No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Breakout chart way back in 1999.

Now, Coco’s family members are remembering her for working “tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese.”
