Depeche Mode expressed sorrow over Andy’s death
The co-founder of the band Depeche Mode, Andy Fletcher has died. His band issued a statement regarding his death that read, “We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.”
They further added, “Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh, or a cold pint. Our hearts are with his family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy in this difficult time.”

When did Andy step into the world of music?
Andrew John Leonard Fletcher was born on July 8, 1961, in Nottingham, England. He was the son of Joy and John Fletcher and he was the oldest of the four children. He and his family shifted to Basildon from Nottingham when he was 2.
When punk rock was in its early days in 1976, Andy was merely 15 years old. During that time, he was influenced by bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cure, Kraftwerk, early Human League, and early OMD. At first, he and his school friend Vince Clarke created a band named No Romance in China in which Fletcher played bass guitar.
The band Depeche Mode was founded in the year 1980 by Fletcher, keyboardist and singer Vince Clarke, singer Dave Gahan and guitarist-keyboardist Martin Gore. Shortly after the release of their first album Speak & Spell, Andy left the band in 1981.
