Valorant professional Karol ‘Twisten’ Asenbrener is no longer with us. According to the assistant of the team, the Valorant star died by suicide. He passed away at the young age of 19.

Karel ‘Twisten’ Asenbrener dies at 19
On June 6, 2023, the French eSports organization Team Vitality announced the unfortunate news of Karel’s passing on the social networking platform Twitter. He died by suicide. At the time of his demise, he was only 19 years old.
The statement read, “We are heartbroken to share with you that our Valorant player Karel ‘Twisten’ Asenbrener passed away last night. We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss, and our first thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this difficult time.”
The note further read, “The whole Team Vitality Organization is devastated by this news.” In a follow-up tweet, the team also shed some light on the importance of mental health and directed the social media users to the website of Mental Health Europe.
Team Vitality’s coach Harry “Gorilla” Mepham, expressed his grief over Karel’s passing on the micro-blogging site Twitter. He wrote, “I woke up this morning to the news of one of my closest friends, someone who genuinely felt as if he was my brother, taking his own life. Words can not describe the grief or emptiness i’m feeling right now.”
Mepham concluded by writing, “I loved him and forever will. I’ll leave this with a quote from his favorite show, and something he used to say to me when i felt down: ‘If you are feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough, set your heart ablaze.’ Rest easy brother, we all love you.”
In the past, Karel ‘Twisten’ Asenbrener openly talked about his battle with depression
Earlier this year, in February, Karel candidly spoke about his battle with depression and self-harming behavior. Then, he disclosed that he had spent some time in a mental health hospital.
In a statement released, the Esports star said, “I have been dealing with depression for over two years now. I don’t know if people saw it at the event here at the LOCK/IN but over Christmas I did bad things to myself.”
Asenbrener further added, “I self-harmed and my was in bad situation [sic] for a few days and was considering ending it all but my dad saved me. I spent few days in the ‘worst’ Mental Health Hospital for people that have serious problems.”
Then, Karel told his followers that he was “doing great mentally and psychically” and thanked his teammates and fans. He continued, “I can promise you, this year will be our f–king year.”
