Constance Wu Claims ‘Sexual Harassment’ By “Fresh Off The Boat” Producer

“Crazy Rich Asians” star Constance Wu alleges that she kept her mouth shut for a very long time about the “Fresh Off The Boat” producer. In her upcoming memoir, “Making A Scene”, the 40-year-old actress claimed that she was sexually harassed by a senior of the production team of the ABC sitcom (now-defunct). Read on to know about her disturbing experience.

Constance Asked The Producer To Stop…

In her upcoming memoir, “Making A Scene”, Constance Wu has come forward with sexual misconduct allegations against the “Fresh Off The Boat” producer. The 40-year-old actress made startling allegations to a senior producer of the now-defunct ABC sitcom. Her memoir, however, mentions the producer by an initial. She alleged that during the show’s first season in 2015, the producer exhibited controlling behaviour and harassed her.

Constance, who played Jessica Huang in the said series, revealed that during the show’s first season in 2015, the producer demanded that she runs all her business matters past him and even told her what to wear. She stated: “ Fresh Off The Boat was my first-ever  TV show. I was thrown into this world. I don’t have parents in the industry. And because I was 30, people thought I knew what I was doing. It made me paranoid and embarrassed.”

Wu also revealed how things took a physical turn when the producer insisted she attend a sporting event with him. There, he placed his hand on her thigh, his hand ultimately grazing her crotch.”

She detailed her version during a panel at Friday (Sept. 23) Atlantic Festival in Washington, D.C, and stated that she had remained quiet for a very long time about the “sexual harassment and intimidation” she underwent during the first two seasons. Once the show was a success, Constance was not scared of losing her job and started saying “no” to such harassment from the particular producer, who remains unnamed.

While mentioning that, Constance Wu also stated that she didn’t have to stain the reputation of the show or the Asian-American producer. While she may not have named the producer, it appears like she is talking about Eddie Huang.

Writing “Making A Scene”…

In July, Constance Wu opened up about her long hiatus from social media amid the backlash. Before this, Constance escaped from the public eye for three years. She also revealed that she has started wiring a book, “Making A Scene”. Not only this, but she opened up about how she attempted suicide but a friend saved her life by rushing her to the ER. Since then, she’s been focussing on her mental health.

During Friday’s panel, Wu revealed that her upcoming memoir is “not always the most flattering portrayal” of herself. However, it’s an honest version of herself. She admitted that she is not poised or graceful or perfect. She said, “I’m emotional. I make mistakes…lots of ’em!”.

Constance also admitted that she feels okay after undergoing therapy and even though she is scared, she is proud to have come out of it and share her story so it can help someone else. Constance’s upcoming memoir hits the shelves on October 4, 2022. As for these allegations, reps for “First Off The Board” have not responded to requests for comments yet.
