Tory Lanez is going to spend the 10 years of his life in prison! Not long ago, the Canadian rapper was sentenced to 10 years in jail for shooting the Savage hitmaker Megan Thee Stallion. As per a report by The New York Times, a Los Angeles judge announced the final verdict over the 2020 roadside shooting of Megan Thee Stallion on Tuesday.

Lanez who is best known by the fans for his hit songs like The Color Violet, Say It and In For It amongst many others was originally set to be sentenced earlier this year in February but things took a turn when his legal team filed a motion for a new trial in March.

Why did Tory Lanez get sentenced to 10 years in prison?

On Tuesday, Tory whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. The shooting incident saw the light of day in the year 2020. At first, he was scheduled to be sentenced in February 2023 but then his team filed a motion for a new trial in March that was eventually dismissed.

In the next couple of months, the sentencing date of the Luv rapper had been pushed several times. It has been reported that the prosecutors were looking for a 13-year sentence and mentioned 3 violations of pre-trial court orders, telling the judge Peterson had “waged a campaign to humiliate and re-traumatize [Megan].”

Daystar’s lawyers requested for him to be sentenced to probation or three years in prison and they were asking for probation and mandatory rehab while shedding some light on his alcohol addiction and childhood trauma.

Lanez’s legal team even submitted some letters of recommendation from family members, members of non-profit organizations, and his friends from the music industry including Iggy Azalea.

More details about the 2020 shooting incident

For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, that Daystar has been in jail without bond since December 23, when a jury found him guilty on three felony firearm counts over a shooting incident that occurred on July 12, 2020.

At that point, Tory allegedly shot his fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet after they left a Hollywood Hills party at beauty mogul Kylie Jenner’s house. After the verdict of the court came out, Tory stopped working with his trial lawyer George Mgdeysan and he recently appointed Jose Baez to handle the case.

In a statement that was read in court on August 7, Megan Thee Stallion whose legal name is Megan Pete said, “He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. This is a statement for all survivors that their lives matter and there is zero tolerance for the torture that accompanies violence.”

Lanez was convicted on a total of 3 counts and they are as follows: one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and negligent discharge of a firearm. He was found guilty last year.

In an essay written for Elle, Megan Pete spilled the beans on the case by writing, “When the guilty verdict came on Dec. 23, 2022, it was more than just vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them.”
