Britney Spears was allegedly slapped in her face in Las Vegas on Wednesday night. The singer was trying to get to San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama when a member of his security team backhanded her and she fell on the ground.
The security guard later apologized to Spears, stating that he did not know who she was when he slapped her. The 41-year-old pop star’s team has now filed a police complaint in the matter and the Metropolitan Police Department is said to be investigating the case.
Britney Spears Slapped by Victor Wembanyama’s Security Guard in Vegas
The incident took place when Spears went for dinner to Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel in Vegas on Wednesday night. She was accompanied by her husband, Sam Asghari, and two others.
At the same time, French footballer Victor Wembanyama, who was drafted by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft, made an entry into the hotel. He was seen taking pictures with his fans and signing autographs.
Spears, who is reportedly a fan of the NBA star, wanted to take a picture with him and so went over to him, tapping on his shoulder. At this time, the Spurs’ Director of Team Security immediately backhanded her. The singer fell straight to the ground and even got her glasses knocked off.
The Security Member Later Apologized to the Pop Star
Spears reportedly maintained her cool after the incident and went back to her table without creating a scene. The Director of security then came to her table and apologized, saying, “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.” He also revealed that he did not know who he had backhanded as he did not see the pop star at the time.
The Womanizer singer is said to have accepted his apology. Her security team then also had a word with Wembanyama’s security guards and spent some time with them. Spears was photographed leaving the restaurant by the paparazzi later in the evening wearing a hoodie with sunglasses, in order to hide her identity.
Spears’s Team has Filed a Police Report Against the Security Guard
Though Spears accepted the apology, her team has filed a police report against the security guard alleging battery. The accused has been identified as the Director of Team Security for the Spurs, Damian Smith.
It is not yet clear whether criminal charges will be filed against him as the police found out that he was only trying to protect his client, and did not intentionally try to hurt Spears. As per sources, the cops looked at the security camera clips from the restaurant and determined that Smith pushed the singer’s hand away, and it was her own hand that hit her face.
Another insider close to the development reveals that the Metropolitan Police Department might be taking up the case for a ‘criminal investigation’ as they are considering the incident to be ‘as serious as a heart attack.’ The case will now reportedly be referred to the D.A.
