Lisa Lyon, bodybuilding star and playboy model dies at 70
American female bodybuilder Lisa Lyon is no longer with us. She took her last breaths at her home in the San Fernando Valley, on Friday, where she was in hospice care. The cause behind her death was stomach cancer.
Lyon posed for the Playboy magazine in the year 1980. At that point in time, she was one of the first bodybuilders who posed for the famous magazine. A year ago, she won the first International Federation of Bodybuilders Woman’s World Pro Bodybuilding Championship. Back in the day, it was a big milestone for women’s bodybuilding. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that she put women’s bodybuilding on the map.
Throughout the course of her remarkable bodybuilding career, Lisa appeared on the cover of various renowned magazines. She also modeled for the legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe who was well noted for his stunning black and white portraits.
Apart from this, Lyon even penned down a book called, “Lisa Lyon’s Body Magic” which was published in 1981. She was the inspiration behind Frank Miller’s Marvel Comics character Elektra. In 2005, Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner played the role of Elektra in the movie of the same name.

For those unaware, let us share with you, Lisa Lyon was an American female bodybuilder who was born on May 13, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. When we talk about her educational qualifications, she studied art at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Later on down the lane, Lyon pursued a career in bodybuilding and the rest is history. She was inducted into the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federal Hall of Fame in the year 2000 for taking bodybuilding to an art form.

Keeping aside her bodybuilding career, Lyon also had a short acting career and she appeared in a total of 3 films. At first, she starred in Three Crowns of the Sailor in 1983. Soon after, she bagged a part in the bodybuilding movie Getting Physical in 1984. She was also seen in the 1986 film Vamp alongside Grace Jones.
While having a chat with the publication TMZ, legendary bodybuilder and movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger gushed over Lisa and mentioned he was a fan of hers. He told the media outlet, “She is the best. I love her.”
