Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Son Nicholas Dies of Gastric Cancer at 43

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s son Nicholas Lloyd Webber has passed away after a long battle with gastric cancer. He was 43. Andrew announced the tragic news of his son’s death with a statement on social media on Saturday.

Nicholas was a musician, just like his father, and composed scores for Broadway musicals. Just last year, he was nominated at the Grammys for his soundtrack in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella. Read on to know more about his tragic death.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Son Nicholas Dies of Gastric Cancer

Nicholas was diagnosed with cancer some 18 months ago. On March 25, Andrew took to Twitter to share the news of his son’s passing and wrote, “I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital,” wrote the 75 year old.

“His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft. Thank you for all your thoughts during this difficult time,” the musician added. In an earlier update last week, Andrew revealed that Nick had been moved to hospice care.

“I want to thank you for the outpouring of messages of support for my son, Nick. He’s now been moved into a hospice and he’s battling away. I think he’s over the worst of this first bout of pneumonia that he’s got as a result of his cancer, which is just ghastly,” Andrew said in a video message on Instagram.

“We’re all here, and the family here has gathered around, and it was the right place for us all to be, I think. I’m going to go see Nick in a minute, and I’m going to pass on all of the fantastic wishes that I’ve had for him from everywhere all around the world,” he added.

Nicholas Lloyd Webber was a Grammy-Nominated Composer

Nick followed in his father’s footsteps and made a career as a composer and record producer. He was known for his works on the score of BBC’s Love, Lies and Records and Gillies McKinnon’s film The Last Bus, which featured Timothy Spall and Phyllis Logan.

The musician was a well-known name in Broadway music and composed for The Little Prince (2016) and Fat Friends: The Musical (2017). In 2022, he composed the soundtrack album of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella and earned himself a Grammy nomination.

Nick also performed at a number of festivals, including the Abu Dhabi music and arts festival, and toured across the UK in 2017. He had been married to viola player Polly Wiltshire since June 2018.

Owing to Nick’s bath health in the last few days, Andrew decided to skip the previews of his show Bad Cinderella. He announced the decision on social media on March 18 by writing, “As my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now hospitalized.”

“I, therefore, have not been able to attend the recent previews of Bad Cinderella and as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on opening night this Thursday,” he continued.

Our heartfelt condolences to Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s family and friends. May his soul rest in peace!
