What happened to Alexandra Paul?
Unfortunately, the renowned Canadian figure Olympic skater, Alexandra Paul, is no longer with us. She died in a multi-car crash in Canada on Tuesday. At the time of her demise, she was 31 years old.
According to a few Canadian media outlets, a transportation truck failed to slow down and crashed into 7 vehicles, before plowing through a construction zone in Melancthon Township, which is located 70 miles north of Toronto.
The former professional skater was driving one of the 7 vehicles with her infant son in the car. Alexandra was pronounced dead at the scene of the car crash. On the other hand, when we talk about her 10-month-old son, he was miraculously saved by the crash.
Soon after the car accident, Alexandra’s son was rushed to a nearby children’s hospital. The police authorities have stated that her son had non-life-threatening injuries. Along with this, a 67-year-old man who got seriously injured was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre. Two other people were also badly hurt in the fatal crash.
A little bit about Alexandra Paul’s personal life
Alexandra and her husband, Mitchell Islam, her long-time ice dancing partner represented Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia and they finished at the 18th place in the ice skating event.
Paul and her life partner Islam tied the knot in the year 2021. The pair exchanged their vows in September 2021. The two lovebirds welcomed their first child together last year. Alexandra gave birth to her and Islam’s first baby, a son named Charles in late 2022.
After getting retired from her skating career, Alexandra acquired a Juris Doctor Degree in 2021. Then, she worked as a lawyer for the Barriston Law.
Skate Canada pays heartfelt tribute to Alexandra Paul
After the unfortunate news of Paul’s demise came out, Skate Canada, the national governing body for figure skating in Canada, issued a statement regarding her tragic death that read, “A shining star on and off the ice, Alexandra’s dedication, passion, and remarkable talents have left an indelible mark on the world of figure skating.”
It further read, “Her commitment to excellence was matched only by her warmth and kindness, which endeared her to fellow athletes, coaches, and fans alike. As we remember Alexandra’s contributions to the sport, we also reflect on the camaraderie and sportsmanship she exemplified. She was not only an accomplished athlete but also a true role model for aspiring skaters, demonstrating the values of resilience, perseverance, and sportsmanlike conduct.”
