It is time to bid adieu to YouTube Rewind!
The latest update on YouTube which has earlier canceled the last year’s Rewind video is that the company has now taken a decision to drop YouTube Rewind once for all. YouTube said that it is canceling Rewind for good, as confirmed by the company to TubeFilter.
Launched over a decade ago in 2010, YouTube Rewind is YouTube’s annual year-end round-up video celebrating the most popular and trending content that was shared on the video platform in the preceding year.
YouTube Cancels Rewind Permanently for ‘Good’
Nine editions of the YouTube Rewind have been released since its inception. However, the tenth iteration of Rewind for the year 2020 was canceled owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
The popular video-sharing platform has canceled the Rewind 2020 video due to COVID-19 as no one would be interested in looking back at 2020 which had no good memories.
The Twitter handle of YouTube creators shared a post on Thursday by writing, “Thank you to all the creators involved in Rewind – we’ll be 👀 for your Rewinds as we refocus our energies on celebrating you and the trends that make YouTube 🔥 with a different and updated kind of experience – stay tuned! →”

The company also revealed that its decision to cancel Rewind is not because of the backlash it received for its 2018 Rewind video.
A spokesperson told TubeFilter that YouTube will “continue to be inspiring to see the myriad of ways the most creative content producers in the world — our YouTube creators — encapsulate the end of year in their video recaps, as YouTube retires its own Rewind video.”
Well, for the unversed, Rewind videos have not been received well through the years!
What was surprising was the YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind which happened to be the most disliked video ever shared on YouTube with over 19 million dislikes. The video was not taken well by critics, YouTubers as well as viewers. In the first two weeks of the release itself, the video garnered over 10 million dislikes.
Even the next one, that is, YouTube Rewind 2019: For the Record also did not receive much love from the viewers.

YouTube which canceled Rewind 2020 owing to the difficulties of the year due to COVID-19 cited “2020 has been different. And it doesn’t feel right to carry on as if it weren’t.”
YouTube Rewind was produced and created by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. These videos covered an overview and recap of a year’s viral videos, events, trends, and music. YouTube uploaded the Rewind videos on its official channel.
