Recently, Wendy Williams talked about her battle with Lymphedema. The Think Like a Man star has stated that she has maybe only five percent feeling in her feet. Read on to know more about the condition and her battle with it.

Wendy Williams shares her battle with Lymphedema

During an interaction with TMZ on Tuesday, the 57-year-old put her swollen leg up in the air to show the fans how her condition has progressed since the time she decided to step down from hosting The Wendy Williams Show. The talk show concluded on June 17.

Wendy told the media outlet, “Do you see this? [My foot] is up and down. I can only feel maybe five percent of my feet, do you understand?” She went on to say that she does not need a wheelchair to move around, she can stand up on her own and roam around.

Wendy revealed she was diagnosed with Lymphedema in 2019

The talk show host disclosed that she was diagnosed with Lymphedema in the year 2019 when a couple of pictures of her surfaced on the internet that showed her swollen ankles.

Apart from this, Williams also suffers from Graves’ disease. As per Mayo Clinic, the disease leads to the overproduction of thyroid hormones. At the time, when she was asked about her health, she went on to say she was better than anyone.

The TV personality also confirmed that she had made up her mind to retire from The Wendy Williams Show but she was still willing to put in an hour or two as a guest host for The View.

Wendy further added, “When you’re famous, podcasts will make more money for me, being famous, than doing ‘The Wendy Williams Show.’”

Here’s everything you need to know about Lymphedema

For those of you who are unversed, let us tell you Lymphedema is a condition that is caused by a blockage in the lymphatic system, part of the immune and circulatory systems.  It is also known as lymphatic obstruction.

According to the report of Mayo Clinic, this condition most commonly affects the arms or legs, but at times it can also occur in the chest wall, abdomen, neck, and genitals. It can be caused by cancer treatments. There is a possibility that it may not occur until a few months or years after the treatment.

The common symptoms of Lymphedema are as follows:

  • Swelling of a body part or all of the arm or leg, including fingers or toes
  • Recurring infections
  • Experiencing a feeling of heaviness or some kind of tightness
  • Restricted range of motion
  • Hardening and thickening of the skin, which is also known as Fibrosis

Several factors contribute to and may increase the chance of developing  Lymphedema and they are older age, excess overweight or obesity, and Rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis.
