The talk show host Wendy Williams has completed two months of rehab. The American broadcaster and writer hosted the national talk show called the Wendy Williams Show.
Before being a host on television, Williams was a radio host and DJ. She quickly became a known voice in New Jersey and got the nickname “shock jockette”.
The 58-year-old was struggling with multiple health issues along with alcohol and drug addiction. Producers on the show claimed that they must have questioned her sobriety “at least 25 times.” Sources revealed her final years on the show before she went on a hiatus and quit the show.
Wendy Williams’ Addiction
Sources said that the show’s staff “witnessed all kinds of things” on the show when Williams was the host. They found “bottles of alcohol in ceiling tiles and other weird places in the office.” Producers would question her sobriety in separate texts sent to seniors.
Bosses of the show would have to assess if she would be able to host the show, although she would always claim that she was “fine.”
The US Sun reported in 2021 that Williams “was drinking every day” even while she was filming. Ultimately, she had some psychiatric issues and had to be hospitalized.
The Production Company Did Not Help
Other sources claim that her show’s production company Debmar-Mercury apparently “refused” to get her help. “They had too much control over someone so vulnerable,” the source said and added that “they turned their backs to her”.
The source also claimed that everyone was an enabler and said “They don’t want to lose their job. They see it, they know it, they smelled the liquor.” The source also added that “Her staffers are worried but no one is ever going to speak up because they don’t want to lose their jobs.”
In 2021, she left the show and went on a hiatus. In March 2022, she went on Good Morning America and claimed that she would be returning to the show in “three months”. She also rubbished rumors of not being well and said that she had “the body of a 25-year-old”.
However, things did not go according to plan and the show was canceled by June 2022. A picture of her apparently passed out at a Louis Vuitton store with a glass of champagne next to her also went viral.
First Rehab Stint
Her ex-husband Kevin Hunter had also claimed that Debmar-Mercury did not provide her with any help. He said, “They sat in a meeting with her whole family, including her now-deceased mom, and would not sign off on the recovery efforts that would’ve helped Wendy also get well and live and be sober.”
Her struggle with substance abuse is not new. She struggled with it earlier in her career as well and then she got sober. But in late 2018 or 2019, she went on a two-month hiatus back then where she entered a halfway house to help with sobriety. To the world, she took the break to treat Graves’ disease.
Later on, she revealed she was “driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to a home that I live in the tri-state [area] with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family.” She also maintained that only her ex-husband Kevin knew about this and no one else did.
Williams Almost Died
Unfortunately, Williams relapsed later on and “could not stop drinking”. According to a report by Page Six news, Wendy Williams alcoholism almost killed her. The former host was found in a catatonic state by DJ Boof. An eye-witness alleged that her manager Bernie Young did not want to dial 911 fearing that the news would get out.
The eyewitness said “She literally couldn’t stand up. She was just lying on top of the covers, and she needed 911 help, and [Young’s] like, ‘We’re not getting 911.’” Furthermore, the eyewitness added that the apartment room was filled with wine and vodka bottles. The series of events also mentioned calls from her ex-husband and son begging her to get help.
Another source added that “She was really, in my opinion, at death’s door. If we were not there that day, she would not be here. She would not have made it.” The sources dislcosed that “She was looking at the ceiling. She was just not responsive, but her eyes were open, but she was definitely in a catatonic state.”
Her divorce from her husband Kevin Hunter or her mother’s death might have been the reason that pushed her over the edge. The couple got divorced in 2020 after he apparently cheated on her and fathered a child in 2019. Her ex-husband is believed to be engaged now to the woman he cheated on Williams with.
Second Rehab Stint
Wendy William’s representative Shawn Zanotti updated fans about her health and said “Wendy has entered a wellness facility seeking help to manage her overall health issues.” He also mentioned that she was taken care of by some of the best doctors.
Recently, he made another statement and said that he was happy to announce that she is out of rehab after completing two months. The representative also shared that she was “healing” at home.
He added that “We are happy to report that Wendy Williams is home and healing after being in a wellness facility since August.” He also mentioned that “Wendy is excited about the road ahead and looking forward to releasing her many projects.”
Via the representative, Williams thanked the fans for their support and prayers and said that she was “back and better than ever.”
Some believe that she might come back with a new podcast. Last month, the representative had said “She is taking some time to focus on her health and wellness as she prepares for a major comeback for the next level in her career with The Wendy Experience Podcast.”
Some believe that Williams is already busy gathering a list of guests for the podcast. Some of the names that may be on the list are Fat Joe, The Kardashians, The Trumps, and Snood Dogg.
