Watch: Will Smith Apologizes to Chris Rock for Oscars Slap

Smith has dished the dirt on his assault of Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards to make amends for the damage that assault has done to his public image. Smith reveals his most honest thoughts about the incident that has tarnished his reputation.

In an emotional YouTube video, Smith explains why he didn’t apologize to the comic who made the joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s short hair during an award ceremony for his work in “King Richard” after he was slapped and charged off the stage by Rock after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s short hair during an award ceremony for his work in the film.

Chris Isn’t Ready To Talk, Says Smith

Smith reveals, “That point fogged out me. It’s all fuzzy. “I’ve reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you.”

Having again apologized for his actions, Smith said he was upset with himself for engaging in such behaviour. He has said that he had responded violently to Rock’s joke because it was a reference to the hair loss that Pinkett Smith experiences due to her alopecia. This is something Pinkett Smith has spoken openly about in the past, and it is a struggle that she faces.

Smith said the nuances and complexities of what happened at that moment had been replayed throughout the last three months to comprehend better what happened.

“I can say to all of you there is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave at that moment. No part of me thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults,” he was quoted as saying.

His Wife did Not prompt the Stage Charge

In addition, Smith faced questions about whether Pinkett Smith had encouraged Rock to charge the stage as she rolled her eyes at Rock’s comparison of her buzzcut to Demi Moore’s. According to the actor, his Wife did not say anything that led him to assault Rock.

“It’s like, you know, I chose on my own, from my own experiences, from my history with Chris,” Smith says. “Jada had nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, babe. I want to say sorry to my kids and family for the heat I brought on us.”

Smith Addresses His Fans Directly On Social Media

Smith was rumoured to be planning on sitting down with a high-profile journalist, such as Oprah Winfrey so that he could speak openly about the fallout surrounding the Rock slap. Still, instead, he has chosen to use social media as a form of direct communication with his fans.

After the slap, Smith stepped down from his position at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the Academy Awards, and offered a public apology. Still, otherwise, he has kept a low profile and lowered his profile.

Fans are supporting Smith’s decision to come forward and apologize for what he did. In my opinion, it is a firm and thoughtful step that he has taken. How do you feel about his act? What is your opinion about it? Comment below and let us know what you think.
