Squid Game is Netflix’s Biggest Hit Series, Touches 111 Million Views in 27 days

South Korean show “Squid Game” which was launched around a month ago touched a milestone by becoming the biggest original debut series on Netflix. The show has reached mindboggling views of 111 million in just 27 days of its launch.

The exciting news has been shared by none other than the streaming service Netflix itself on social media on Wednesday, October 13. The show was originally released on 17th September.

With the Squid Game series achieving this incredible feat, it has been breaking the internet!

Squid Game becomes Netflix’s Biggest Hit Series by touching 111 Million Views in 27 days

The Squid Game series has also surpassed the UK romantic drama series Bridgerton which touched a record of 82 million viewers in January this year in its first 28 days. Also, Squid Game has now become the first Netflix show to cross the 100-million mark in just four weeks of the launch.

Netflix took to its official Twitter account and shared the big news by writing, “Squid Game has officially reached 111 million fans — making it our biggest series launch ever!”

Squid Game is a nine-episode thriller from South Korean filmmaker Hwang Dong-hyuk having a total runtime of 8 hours and 12 minutes.

The show has been watched by over 111 million Netflix viewers as of now. When a viewer watches at least two minutes of any episode, it is counted as one view by Netflix.

Last month at a tech conference in California, Netflix co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos shared that Netflix was surprised by looking at the popularity of Squid Game. He said, “We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity.”

Another instance that shows the popularity of Squid Game is that the streaming service Netflix was sued by the South Korean Internet service provider SK Broadband. The Internet service provider asked Netflix to meet the costs the former has to spend on maintenance work because of the increased network traffic owing to the rise in viewers of the series.

Well, this is something way beyond what someone might have actually thought!

“Squid Game” series is written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The series features Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung. Netflix acquired the distribution rights of the show which premiered worldwide on September 17, 2021.

In just a week of its release, the show has become one of the most-watched shows on Netflix in a number of regional markets. The series has been critically acclaimed and has been successful in grabbing huge international attention.

So, are you also one of the active Squid Game viewers? If yes, do share your thoughts on Netflix’s hugely popular debut series!
